6 p.m., Evelyn Chapel – A Vigil in Solidarity with our Muslim Neighbors in New Zealand and Around the World – Evelyn Chapel invites the campus community to participate in a vigil to remember and grieve the deaths of the women, men and children murdered at their mosques in New Zealand this past weekend, followed by a time for conversation with members of the Muslim Student Association. 11 a.m., Basement, Evelyn Chapel – The Importance of Religious Literacy in Teaching and Across the Professions: A Workshop with IWU Alum John Camardella – In this interactive conversation, IWU alumnus and History and Educational Studies major John Camardella '03 will talk about his journey as an educator and how it led to his work with Harvard's Religious Literacy Project. The campus community is invited to come and hear how John has transformed his high school social studies curriculum to include an emphasis on global religious literacy and how he has worked not only with students but also with parents and his community to advocate for religious literacy in civic society and the professions. 7 p.m., Auditorium, Welcome Center – Trying To Live On The "Edge of Next": How My Liberal Arts Education at IWU Prepared Me to Become a Teacher, Coach, Harvard Fellow and Global Citizen – John Camardella '03 has moved from the basketball courts (team captain for IWU) to innovative thinker and global citizen. John teaches World Religion and serves as Head Varsity Basketball Coach at Prospect High School. He is also a fellow through Harvard University’s Religious Literacy Project. He will share his tips for success and discuss his thoughts on how a curious mind, combined with a desire to serve others, can help you thrive in a global society.
7 p.m., C101, CNS – Social Media for the Medical Professional – IWU Student Nurses' Association and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Theta Pi Chapter are hosting Dr. Sara Krzyzaniak, an emergency room physician for OSF Healthcare. Dr. Krzyzaniak will speak to Illinois Wesleyan students about "Social Media for the Medical Professional." All students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend.
7 p.m., Beckman Auditorium, The Ames Library – A Reading by Porochista Khakpour – Porochista Khakpour, author of two novels and a memoir, will read from her work. Kirkus Review praised her memoir Sick (HarperCollins, 2018): “lucid, eloquent, and unflinchingly honest, Khakpour’s book is not just about a woman’s relationship to illness, but also a remarkably trenchant reflection on personal and human frailty.” It has been named one of the most anticipated books of 2018 by the Boston Globe, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, The Rumpus, and others. She has received many honors for her work, including a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship in Creative Writing, and fellowships from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. What are some common and some distinct practices that honor and celebrate life after it ends? Join the Multifaith Ambassador team for a discussion about burial practices in our faith and cultural traditions, and how they express core beliefs about life and death.

12 p.m., Davidson Room, Memorial Center – Non-Org: 2020-2021 Intellectual Theme - Health – Collaborative Brainstorming Session – The annual theme committee invites colleagues to explore the broad topic of “health” as a theme and help develop the direction for the theme description and title. Many departments include health topics (policy, practice, finance, disparity, well-being, mental health, environmental impacts, careers, literature, history, art, theatre, and many more). The committee would like to capitalize on broad interest and expertise as we challenge our campus community to explore this topic. Faculty members Wendy Kooken, Greg Shaw, Meg Miner and Brenda Drury will facilitate this brainstorming session.
