Titan Athletics
|
|
The Titan football team defeated the Waseda University Big Bears in the Global Bowl Tokyo 2017 on Sunday, June 4, at Amino Field in Chofu, Japan.
- Illinois Wesleyan University finished No. 28 (of 325 ranked schools) in the final rankings of the 2016-17 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

- Associate Professor of Business Administration Fred Hoyt participated in the Faculty Development in International Business program in Cuba in May. Read his blog.
- Associate Professor of Biology Edgar Lehr published "A new minute species of Pristimantis (Amphibia: Anura: Craugastoridae) with a large head from the Yanachaga-Chemillén National Park in central Peru, with comments on the phylogenetic diversity of Pristimantis occurring in the Cordillera Yanachaga" with Jiří Moravec, Juan Carlos Cusi, Václav Gvoždík, in the European Journal of Taxonomy.
This marks the 1,000th species published in the journal.
- Associate Professor and Information Literacy Librarian Chris Sweet was featured in an episode of the show Impossible Engineering on Discovery Science. The episode focuses on how Tesla cars are made. Contacted because of his research into bicycling history, Sweet discussed metallurgy basics and industrial stamping developed in the 1890's by a Chicago bicycle company called Western Wheelworks.
- In his 13th season at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, Associate Professor and Director of the IWU School of Theatre Arts Tom Quinn will star as Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream and as Cymbeline (along with other roles) in Shakespeare's Amazing Cymbeline, a six-person adaptation in which five actors and a musician play all the parts.
Also representing Illinois Wesleyan, Libby Zabit ’18 has an Acting Internship with this year's festival. She will be appearing in A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Theatre For Youth show and the green show.
- Melissa Bailey ’75 joined the new cast of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks (2017) in a part written especially for her after an initial interview taping. The return of the cult classic is currently airing on Showtime.

Reminder - Summer Conferences and Camps |
|
We welcome our summer camps and conferences to campus. During the month of June, the following groups will hold overnight sessions at Illinois Wesleyan:
- June 9-10: A group of volunteers for the Special Olympics will be staying on campus for one night.
- June 13-17: Shriners All-Star Football will be on campus for a camp held at the Shirk Center, and will have meals in the Memorial Center.
- June 14-18: The Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership conference will use the Memorial Center, the Quad (listen for cheers), the Hansen Student Center, CNS, and State Farm Hall.
- June 18-24: Mario Pelusi, professor and director of the School of Music, will host students eager to learn more about composing music in his annual Summer Music Composition
Institute/Camp.
- June 20-23: The National Dance Alliance will be using spaces in the Memorial Center to strengthen their talents for an end-of-camp performance.
- June 24-25: Head Men's Basketball Coach Ron Rose will host an overnight high school basketball tournament at the Shirk Center.
- June 28-30: Head Men's Soccer Coach Kyle Schauls will host an elite group of high school players looking to better their skills for the college level.

Boiler Shutdown and Power Outages |
|
Boilers are shut down for annual maintenance through June 9. Limited power outages are also planned to accommodate maintenance today and Tuesday, June 5-6. As a result, The Ames Library will be closed June 5-6. See the full outage schedule. |
