• The Illinois Wesleyan softball team won the 2016 NCAA Regional with a victory over DePauw University on May 15 at IWU Softball Field. The No. 18-nationally ranked Titans get their second regional title in the last three years and will play at Luther College in the NCAA Super Regional round of 16 on May 20-21 in Decorah, Iowa.
   
  
• Senior Danielle Ellis was chosen as the winner of the Division III Kim Moore Spirit Award and Patrick Freeman was named the Division III Golf Pride Central Region Coach of the Year by the Women's Golf Coaches Association at the WGCA Awards Banquet held in Houston, Texas.

4 p.m., Davidson Room, Memorial Center – Improv Techniques for Your Classroom – Faculty are invited to this educational and fun workshop presented by Colin Stewart, director of Student Activities and Leadership Programs. The skills developed when engaging in improv exercises parallel the skills that educators try to develop in our students, such as creativity, problem-solving and adaptation. You will leave this workshop with a number of different improv exercises that you can use in your classes. Stewart's Ph.D. dissertation explores how improv comedy impacts learning, social skills, and identity development. He has presented improv workshops at local, national, and international conferences and is a published author on the topic of improvisation.

• Carolyn Nadeau, the Bryon S Tucci Endowed Professor of Hispanic Studies, published “A Gastronomic Map of Don Quixote Part 2” in eHumanista/Cervantes, 4 (2015): 140-158 and gave the keynote address “Treating Sensory Ailments in the Age of Andreas Vesalius,” for the Altman Symposium at Miami University, 2016.
  
  
• B. Charles and Joyce Eichhorn Ames Professor of Physics Gabriel Spalding gave an invited presentation about his national study of instructional lab offerings at 500 physics degree-granting institutions, and also co-led a panel discussion about supporting authentic undergraduate research, on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., as part of a symposium organized by the National Science Foundation and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, entitled “Envisioning the Future of Undergraduate STEM Education: Research and Practice."
  
  
• Fern Rosetta Sherff Professor of Music David Vayo was artist-in-residence at Hill House in Mancelona, Mich. from May 3-16. During his residency, Vayo composed the first movement of a collaboration with poet Amit Majmudar and vocalist James Martin '92. The work will be premiered in December 2017 in Jackson, Miss., as part of activities surrounding the opening of the nation's first federally funded civil rights museum.
  
  
• Brock Klein '07 was selected as one of "30 under 35" award winners for 2016 among members of the National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED) trade association by The Electrical Distributor Magazine. He will be recognized in the July issue of tED Magazine.

This Friday, May 20, is National Bike to Work Day. The Illinois Wesleyan Bike Coop will hold their first-ever tune-up event all day in the garage behind the IT House. Sign up and bring your bike in after 7:30 a.m. and they'll do all the basics – lubricating the chain, tightening the brakes, etc. while you're at your desk.

The $20 fee will go to further develop the coop by allowing them to buy more tools, parts and accessories. Learn more or sign up here.
