Amelia Smith '15 Selected for Fulbright Fellowship in Austria
Graduating senior Amelia Smith '15 has received a fellowship associated with the Fulbright Program to teach in Austria.

Lu Lu Liao Wins Mark Israel Research Fellowship
Economics and mathematics double major Lu Liao'17 was awarded the 2015 Mark Israel Research Fellowship to conduct independent research this summer under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Sports

• The Illinois Wesleyan softball team secured their second consecutive and 16th overall College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) regular season championship, then hosted and won the CCIW Tournament.

• The Illinois Wesleyan staff earned "Women's Coaching Staff of the Year" honors as IWU won the CCIW outdoor track championships at Wheaton College on Saturday, May 2.

• The Illinois Wesleyan men's golf team won their fourth straight CCIW championship at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Illinois.

10 a.m., Beckman Auditorium, The Ames Library – Crossing Cultural Boundaries Mindfully: Understanding Cross-Cultural Communication StylesDr. Stella Ting-Toomey will be on campus to lead discussions on intercultural communication. This one-hour general session is open to both faculty and staff. Dr. Ting-Toomey's visit is sponsored by the Mellon Center, International Office, and Office of the Provost.

$3 Lunch for Faculty and Staff from Sodexo

All faculty and staff are eligible to eat in Bertholf Commons for only $3 during lunch on Thursday, May 7.

Sodexo will extend a special offer during May Term, from May 8-29, when lunch will be just $5. Seating will be provided in the Turfler Room. 


Summer & Fall Campus Reservations


As of May 1, you may now request campus spaces through Resource 25 for Summer 2015 as well as Fall of 2015. Spring 2016 reservations for non-academic spaces cannot be made until October 1st (academic spaces cannot be made until December 1st for Spring 2016).

If you need to make campus reservations, but are not already set up with a login, please send an email to bookit@iwu.edu requesting assistance.

• Chair and Professor of Hispanic Studies Christina Isabelli co-presented a paper "Second Language Acquisition in the Domestic Immersion Context: An Ecolinguistic Approach" at the Kentucky Foreign Language Conference held at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, April 2015.

•  Scholarly Communications Librarian/Associate Professor Stephanie Davis-Kahl:

- Will be a panelist on the May 5 webinar hosted by College & Research Libraries, "C&RL Online Forum: Survey of Campus Coordinators of Undergraduate Research Programs."

- Was the keynote speaker on April 24 for "ARLD Day," an annual gathering hosted by the Minnesota Library Association's Academic and Research Libraries Division.

- Was a presenter with the Association of College & Research Libraries Scholarly Communications Roadshow Workshop, "Scholarly Communication: From Understanding to Engagement," hosted by Iowa State University in April and the University of South Carolina in March.

- Presented "Who Benefits?: Preserving and Making Available an Institution's Digital Research and Creative and Scholarly Output" at the University of Northern Iowa on April 16.

- Was the moderator for a presentation, "Collective Strengths: Institutional Repositories & Communities of Practice," and co-presented the poster, "Contributions to the Scholarly Record: Conferences & Symposia in the Repository" at the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) 2015 Conference, March 25-28, Portland, Oregon.

- Presented the Digital Commons community webinar, "Data Management and the IR [Institutional Repository] as a Teaching Tool at Illinois Wesleyan," along with IWU Assistant Professor of Psychology Ellen Furlong and her student, Stephanie AuBuchon '16.
