Before coming to Illinois Wesleyan, Dr. Taye was a Visiting International Scholar
at Illinois State University, his alma mater. He joined the IWU faculty in September
2007 under the Scholar at Risk Program. As president of the Ethiopian Teachers' Association,
Taye Woldesmiate, was condemned to 15 years in prison in 1996. Thanks to international
pressure, he was released in 2002, and has been living in exile since 2005, since
a warrant has been issued for his arrest by the Ethiopian government. This fall, Dr.
Taye is teaching Introduction to International Politics and Politics of Developing
