CrissCross: Journal of Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Work
To foster and celebrate student research that engages, translates, and bridges academic
disciplines and/or crosses traditional academic boundaries, the IWU chapter of Phi
Beta Kappa has invited students to think creatively about how the disciplines in which
they are most engaged intersect, overlap, or diverge, and to explore the benefits
of looking at an issue from more than one disciplinary perspective.
The PBK Liberal Arts Scholar Award is open to students who work in any medium, be
it artwork, a music composition, photography or film, a collection of poetry, or other
scholarly or artistic endeavor produced during the senior year that demonstrates an
interdisciplinary approach to the topic and/or an interdisciplinary solution to the
problem under study.
The applicants for the award in previous years have represented a range of disciplines
including: anthropology, art, environmental studies, French & Francophone studies,
Hispanic studies, political science, and sociology, and their senior level work included
research papers in English and in Spanish, as well as in graphic design.
CrissCross is a new journal that features the work the applicants submitted for the Award.
