Illinois Wesleyan University is an independent, residential, liberal arts university. It is with this mission students are encouraged to live in University-approved housing during their time on campus. In order to provide flexible housing opportunities, students are also provided the option of living in housing within the Bloomington-Normal community.
Students who wish to apply for Off-Campus housing must meet one of the following guidelines:
- Live six semesters in University-approved housing: residence halls, Greek chapter houses, or semesters abroad
- Married, over the age of 25, or living locally with parents
- Extreme medical conditions (permission and documentation necessary)
In any of these cases, permission must be obtained through the Office of Residential Life by completing an online request form and further documentation may be required for some claims. Applications from students affiliated with Fraternities and Sororities with University-approved housing will be forwarded to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life for final approval.
New applications and renewals are available through the MyHousing Portal and approval will be granted on an ongoing basis, beginning in November each year. Students who are eligible for off-campus housing must complete the online application by May 15th. Students currently living off campus must complete the online application by July 15th. Failure to complete an off-campus request or renewal by the stated deadline will result in a $200 late notification charge.
For students who choose voluntarily to live off-campus, financial aid is usually limited to tuition and fees.
Our mission is facilitating enjoyable, sustainable and inclusive communities that support and enhance students' academic achievement and personal development.
