  • TommyIn only its third season as a varsity sport at the school, the Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team has claimed a share of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship and will host a CCIW tourney semifinal game on Wednesday, May 4.

  • The men's golf team won its fifth straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship on April 30 at Prairie Landing Golf Course in West Chicago, Ill.

  • With a win at North Central on April 28, the Illinois Wesleyan softball team captured the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin regular season championship for the third straight year and for the 17th time overall. The Titans will host the CCIW postseason tournament on May 5-6 at IWU softball field.

  • Mezzosoprano Margaret Fox '04 is a member of the Madison Bach Musicians, who performed a concert hosted by the Ashland Chamber Music Society.

  • Attorney Thomas E. Howard '02 has been reappointed to serve as a member of the Illinois State Bar Association's Mental Health Law Section Council. He has also been appointed to the Standing Committee On Judicial Evaluations - Outside Cook County and the Commercial Banking, Collections & Bankruptcy Law Section Council.

  • Miranda Miranda (Utzinger) Karban '08 received her Ph.D. in biological anthropology from the University of Iowa, successfully defending her dissertation, "The Ontogeny of Occipital Bone Convexity in a Longitudinal Sample of Extant Humans," which explores cranial growth and development patterns in modern humans and Neanderthals. This fall she will start a position as assistant professor of biology at Illinois College.

  • A composition by Eric Malmquist '07 will be premiered on May 13 by the Chicago Composers Orchestra, which was co-founded by fellow Illinois Wesleyan alum Brian Baxter '07.

  • David Szwed '98 was named principal of Mead Junior High School in Elk Grove Village, Ill.

Human Rights, Sustainability and Social Justice Internships

Thanks to the generous support of IWU alumni from the class of 1970, the Fund for Human Rights, Sustainability and Social Justice has been established for the purpose of supporting relevant student internships and campus programming in these thematic areas. The fund will be administered by the Center for Human Rights and Social Justice.


Beginning this summer and continuing through the 2016-17 academic year, the Center will offer up to $5,000 in individual stipends to qualified students who complete human rights, sustainability, and social justice internships. Learn more or apply.
