Four New Graduates to Teach in Japan
Four new Illinois Wesleyan graduates have won competitive positions to teach in Japan starting this fall, one at Technos College in Tokyo and three with the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Program.
Isabelli Awarded Grant to Teach in Madrid
Wesleyan's Christina Isabelli won an IES Abroad grant to teach a summer course in Madrid. Her six-week course in Spanish will examine how social organization and behavior influenced language change.
Nursing Simulation Expert Earns Certification
Becky Altic, who works in the School of Nursing's new simulation center, received designation as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
President Wilson Gives Commencement Address at Alma Mater
Illinois Wesleyan President Richard F. Wilson presented the commencement address May 9 at his alma mater, Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia.
Wagner Named Athletic Director at Illinois Wesleyan
Longtime associate athletic director Mike Wagner has been named to succeed retiring athletic director Dennie Bridges.

• The Illinois Wesleyan men's golf team will play in its ninth consecutive NCAA Division III championships, being held May 12-15 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.
• Senior Dan Truesdale and junior Matthew Mardis have been elected to the Capital One Academic All-District® 7 baseball team and will be on the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America® Team.

All participants who volunteer for the entire two hours will receive a free IWU Interfaith T-shirt.

Tuesday, May 19, 3 p.m. in Beckman Auditorium, The Ames Library – IDES Lecture: "Religion in Ancient Mediterranean Comedy" – Erin Moodie, assistant professor in the Languages and Cultures Department at Purdue University, will present "Religion in Ancient Mediterranean Comedy: Character, Context, and Content." This talk will provide a broad introduction to the religious contexts of Greek and Roman comedy, as well as the comic genres' depiction of deities and religious practices. From the Dionysia festival in Athens to Jupiter's deus ex machina in Plautus' Amphitryon, religion is central to ancient comedy, providing structure, atmosphere, and significance to events on and off the stage. • Alice Arnold, professor of art education at East Carolina University, was named one of 10 Women of Distinction by the ECU Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Women. The honor recognizes women who demonstrate outstanding leadership, mentoring, and commitment to diversity, empowerment, equality, equity and/or social justice. The awards are made every other year.
