Illinois Wesleyan University celebrated graduating members of the Class of 2018 during Commencement exercises on Sunday, May 6 in the Shirk Activity Center. See a photo gallery.

DTE student Summer Camps Offered on the Illinois Wesleyan Campus
Illinois Wesleyan will continue its tradition of offering a variety of summer camps for youth, including the launch of a new Design, Technology and Entrepreneurship Summer Camp, running June 12-15.

Titan Athletics
  • Several Titan teams won their respective College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament championships over the weekend. With their wins:
  • The women's lacrosse team will host the second round game of the 2018 NCAA Division III women's lacrosse championships on Sunday, May 13, advancing to the tournament for the second straight year.
  • The men's lacrosse team, also for the second consecutive year, will play in the NCAA Division III national tournament, facing Denison in the second round game on Wednesday, May 9, in Ohio.
  • The men's golf team won its seventh straight conference championship, their 20th overall CCIW title. The team gets the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III championships at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., which will be Illinois Wesleyan's 12th straight appearance in the national meet.
  • The softball team earned the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III championship tournament, for its seventh straight appearance and 17th overall.

  • Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball coach Mia Smith, along with Illinois Wesleyan's 1997 men's national championship team and 2012 women's national champs, were inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 5.

In Sympathy

SusieElizabeth (Susie) Balser, faculty member in Biology for more than 20 years, passed away last month following an extended illness. Susie was recognized as an expert on the anatomy of echinoderms, and her passion for invertebrate animals inspired the creation of new courses at Illinois Wesleyan. Both as an instructor and as a research mentor, Susie challenged students to carefully study the natural world and make their own discoveries. 

There are no services planned.

With a nod to diversity and its largest graduating class of international students, Illinois Wesleyan offered a translation of Sunday's commencement ceremony in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Also reported by WGLT.

Dianne (Smith) Williamson '62, Nancy Steele Brokaw '71 and Linda (Lueck) Bollivar '88 were nominated for the 2018 YWCA Women of Distinction Award.

John Tharp ’93 will be the learning community executive director for the Harrison Bay Learning Community, a collection of 14 schools in Hamilton County.

An international studies major with an Hispanic studies minor, standout softball player Sam Berghoff '20 will study and complete an internship in Argentina this fall.

Former IWU runner Dana Rotz '14 returned to the Bloomington area to win the 12K women's race at the 37th annual Lake Run on May 5.
