1-4 p.m., Hansen Student Center – Martin Luther King Jr. Day Teach-In – Barbara Smith, who has fostered national dialogue on the intersections of race, class, sexuality and gender, will be the keynote speaker at 1 p.m.
At 2 p.m., Illinois Wesleyan Visiting Professor of Sociology Nicole Brown '99 will present, “When All the Lies are White: A Speculative History and Imagined Future of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Visit to a Predominantly White Liberal Arts Institution,” followed by discussion.
At 3 p.m., a panel of community activists will speak.

New opportunities are available in Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines and Thailand. International students are now eligible to apply, though they may not apply for positions in their home country (e.g. Chinese students cannot apply for positions in Hong Kong). In recent posts, Jac Jemc '05 returned to campus recently to present a reading of her newest work as part of the Colwell Lecture and Reading Series. Jemc ’05 also spoke to Professor of English Kathleen O’Gorman’s “Short Story” course. Jemc’s senior project as an English major became the first draft of her book My Only Wife, which was a finalist for the 2013/PEN Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction. Chicago-based Jemc’s third book, The Grip of It, is forthcoming from Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
