 Jovicevic '16 Recognized as Lincoln Laureate
Senior Nicole Jovicevic was named a 2015 Student Laureate by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois in recognition of her academic achievements and extracurricular involvement.

Sports
• The IWU women's soccer team scored a two-overtime victory in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Neis Field on Sunday, Nov. 15, and will advance to the sectional round next Saturday, Nov. 21, in St. Louis, Mo.
• Senior Erin McCarey has been selected as an individual qualifier for the 2015 Division III Women's Cross Country Championships, which will be on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.
• The volleyball team battled Carthage to five sets before being eliminated from the 2015 NCAA Division III regional tournament in the round of 32 at Van Noord Arena on the Calvin College campus in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Friday, Nov. 13.

• 4 p.m., Beckman Auditorium, The Ames Library – The Ides Series: “The Western Classics in Modern China” – Shadi Bartsch-Zimmer, the Helen A. Regenstein Distinguished Service Professor of Classics at University of Chicago, will speak, sponsored by Greek and Roman Studies. In the space of the past century, Chinese scholars and thinkers have gone from finding our foundational Western texts inspirational to finding them short-sighted, obsessed with rationality, and responsible for the development of capitalism. Plato himself emerges from Chinese scholarship (somewhat unrecognizably) as the founding source of the West's worship of profit. This talk will investigate the meaning of these developments.

• 4 p.m., C102, CNS – A Biologist and a Statistician Walked Into a Bar... – Professor Olcay Akman of the Illinois State University Mathematics Department will discuss an artificial neural network cluster analysis method, called the Kohonen algorithm, which was implemented in a cross-disciplinary project with a group of biologists. During the field study part of the project, a not-so-uncommon sampling error was recognized, which required the development of a correction algorithm as well. This talk will be accessible to undergraduate students of both fields. This event is part of the Natural Science Colloquium Series with Earl H. & Marion A. Beling Lectures.
