University Welcomes its 19th President on His First Day
Illinois Wesleyan is turning a new page in its history, as
President Eric R. Jensen officially begins his duties as the
University's 19th chief executive officer.
Mirza Foundation Makes $2.5 Million Gift to IWU Theatre Program
The theatre in McPherson Hall has been named the Jerome Mirza
Theatre in recognition of a $2.5 million gift to the School of Theatre
Arts.
Student Research Shows Proximity a Factor in Musical Preferences
Assistant Professor of Music Joe Plazak, Zach Silver ’18 and Shaun
Schaefers ’16 presented research at the national conference of the
Society for Music Perception and Cognition.
Sports Information Office Named in Honor of Ed Alsene
The
IWU Sports Information Director's office has been named in honor of
former director Ed Alsene, thanks to a generous anonymous donation by an
alumnus in Alsene's name.
Best Gateway Essay Winners Announced
The
IWU Writing Committee has announced that sophomores Megan Sperger and
Andrew Pichette are winners of the annual Best Gateway Essay Contest.
Actor, Author Eisenberg Wows Students at Illinois Wesleyan
Actor
and author Jesse Eisenberg impressed students with his wit, warmth and
writing talent during a packed day of appearances Oct. 26 at Illinois
Wesleyan.
Self-Portraits Reveal Devastation of Alzheimer’s
An upcoming art exhibit is the centerpiece of an interdisciplinary
effort to better understand the impact of Alzheimer’s, with faculty in
nursing, psychology, philosophy, art and poetry presenting original
works and interpretation.

• For the second straight year, junior Skyler Tomko
has been elected to the Academic All-District 7 Division III women's
soccer team and will be on the ballot for the Academic All-America Team.
• Head Volleyball Coach Kim Nelson-Brown won her 400th career game as the Titans picked up their 21st win of the season on Oct. 30.

A panel will be introduced and moderated by Professor of History Tom
Lutze, with brief presentations by Professor of History Mike Weis on the
complexity of domestic and international forces fueling the Syrian
conflict; Associate Professor of Political Science Kathleen Montgomery
on the Syrian refugee migrations to Europe and the politics of their
reception there, especially in Hungary; and Irv Epstein, Ben and Susan
Rhodes Endowed Professor in Peace and Social Justice, chair of
Educational Studies and director of the Center for Human Rights, on the
broader question of human rights and human migrations.
The panel presentations will be followed by a question and answer session.
