Tipsord Tipsord '81 Named State Farm CEO
Michael Tipsord '81 will become CEO of State Farm Insurance Cos. in September, at the recommendation of current CEO and fellow Illinois Wesleyan graduate Ed Rust Jr. '72, who will remain board chairman.

Andy Ding '18 Awarded National Scholarship
Physics major Zhenghao (Andy) Ding '18, who researches microfluidics, optical trapping and quantum entanglement in the IWU physics lab, was awarded a 2015 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship.

Taiyo Wilson '12 Awarded NASA Research Fellowship
Physics alumnus Taiyo Wilson '12 has been awarded a NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship, enabling him to collaborate with top researchers in the field.

Alanna Alanna Hill Named Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life
Alanna Hill will be Illinois Wesleyan's director of fraternity and sorority life beginning July 6.


Sports

• Illinois Wesleyan finished No. 34 (of 322 schools earning points) in the final 2014-15 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.

9:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m., meet on the south side of The Ames Library – Tree Walk – University of Illinois Plant Clinic Plant Diagnostician Travis Cleveland will lead a walk visiting the diverse ornamentals on the Illinois Wesleyan campus, sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension. Register online. (There is a $5 fee. This program may be canceled if fewer than 5 individuals register to attend.)

Merwin and Wakeley Galleries, Joyce Eichhorn Ames School of Art – Summer Art Exhibits – The newly named director of Illinois Wesleyan's Merwin and Wakeley Galleries, Ian T. Carey, will be one of the artists exhibiting work in the galleries.
Carey's "Hoodwinked" is on view in the Merwin Gallery, while Neil Cole will exhibit photographs in "Scenes from Seoul and Kyoto" in the Wakeley Gallery.

Summer gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 12-3 p.m.

Saturday, June 27

Joseph Lim '13 has seized the opportunity to conduct research in Dublin, putting on hold his studies at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in West Indies in order to work with investigators to address a significant threat to Ireland's dairy sector and its economy – postpartum uterine infection in cows.

• Attorney Amanda Conley '04 has co-founded her own firm, Brand & Branch LLP, which provides intellectual property legal services for the cannabis, beverage, technology, gaming and publishing industries, among others.

• Soprano Kimblery Giordano '94 performed Strauss' Four Last Songs with the Cascade Symphony Orchestra on May 9.

• The Logic Puzzle Museum of Burlington, Wisconsin, founded by Judith Schulz '71, was featured in a full-page feature story in the April 2015 Games - World of Puzzles national magazine. Schulz and her other hands-on educational museum, the Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum, were featured in a 2011 IWU news release.
