HornPerformances to Celebrate School of Music's 150th Anniversary
The Homecoming theme "Off the Charts" commemorates the School of Music's 150th, and celebrations will feature alumni returning to perform special concerts with current students.

During Homecoming activities Oct. 17-19, alumni Kyle Pfortmiller '92, Sean Parsons '01 and Kris Condon '84 will be honored, and Patricia Stockert '76 will receive the School of Nursing Distinguished Alumna Award.


The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team won its fourth straight match, taking a five-set decision at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., on Friday, Oct. 10.

Faculty Open House for prospective students and families.

Homecoming Decorating Contest – Each campus office, residence hall and chapter house is encouraged to participate for a chance to win a traveling trophy in their category. Each of the areas will have a winner, and from those a campus winner will be chosen. There will be a plaque in Hansen with the name of the overall campus winner displayed. Judging will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16.

4 p.m., Beckman Auditorium, The Ames Library – Philosophy/Psychology Talk – Jack Furlong of the Philosophy Department at Transylvania University will present "Reorienting the Question of What We Owe Nonhumans: Beyond Rights Talk Toward Capability Discourse."

Tuesday, Oct. 14

Also Thursday, Oct. 169 a.m.-5 p.m., CNS Atrium – Flu Shot Clinic for IWU Students – Junior and senior students in the School of Nursing (supervised by SON faculty) will partner with the Arnold Health Service to provide flu shots to IWU students. All IWU students are welcome to stop by and receive their 2014 flu vaccine free of charge. Supplies are limited. For questions, contact Dr. Noël Kerr at

12:30 p.m., Room 200, Hansen Student Center – ARC SignUp Genius Workshop – The Action Research Center wants to equip campus leaders with knowledge of different types of useful tools. RSO and Greek leaders are invited to learn how to use SignUp Genius to help track and report volunteer hours, as well as track individuals that participate in events. Pizza will be served.

4 p.m., Beckman Auditorium, The Ames Library – Conflict, Democracy and Revolution in post-Chavez Venezuela – Jennifer McCoy, Distinguished University Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University and director of the Americas Program at The Carter Center in Atlanta, will speak on Venezuelan political culture and the neo-Bolivarian perspective that is spreading throughout the hemisphere. This event is sponsored by a "Recentering the Humanities" grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as well as the Department of Hispanic Studies, the Latin American Studies team of International Studies, and the Center for Human Rights and Social Justice.
