Former Prof Wins Six Events in State Meet D. Paul Miller of Normal, Ill., a professor at Illinois Wesleyan from 1960 to 1982, captured six gold medals in his 95-99 age group in the Sept. 28 Illinois Senior Olympics in Springfield.

Community Engagement Opportunity
YWCA Smart Sprouts is currently recruiting volunteer tutors for multiple sites in McLean County, including Kingsley Jr. High (seeking multiple tutors), Cedar Ridge Elementary (seeking multiple tutors), as well as six after-school sites in Bloomington. Tutoring happens Mondays-Thursdays, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. or sometime between 3-5 p.m. Tutors may work each week, or only a few times each semester, depending on volunteer availability. Smart Sprouts will cover the costs of required background and health screenings.
They are interested in education, mathematics, English, library science, psychology, Spanish and/or ESL students. Remembering Jim McGowan A bur oak has been planted on the Illinois Wesleyan campus near The Ames Library in memory of Emeritus Professor of English James D. McGowan, who died July 20.
As part of the English Department's Homecoming Reception, on Friday, Oct. 17 at 3:45 p.m., a plaque and the tree commemorating his presence will be dedicated. If you would like to attend this short ceremony, meet at the English House, 1101 N. Main St., at 3:30 p.m. and Anne McGowan will lead us to the McGowan Bur Oak.
