BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The seventh annual Illinois Chamber Music Festival, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University, will feature an appearance by the Grammy Award-winning Pacifica Quartet. As part of the festival concert series this year, the internationally renowned string quartet will give a special presentation and master class on Tuesday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium (1210 North Park St., Bloomington). This event is free and open to the public.
The Pacifica Quartet was the recent recipient of a Grammy Award for "Best Chamber Music Performance" for its recording of Elliott Carter's String Quartets Nos. 1 & 5. The group members are Faculty Quartet in Residence at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, although their performances have brought them to concert halls throughout the United States and in numerous European, Asian, and Australian cities.
In addition to this special event, the Illinois Chamber Music Festival will hold a series of concerts by both faculty and students, all of which are free and open to the public. There will be 11 concerts from June 24 to July 12 in Westbrook Auditorium. The schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m. featuring Brahms, Paganini and Zemlinsky (Faculty)
Sunday, June 28 at 3:00 p.m. featuring Foote, White and Arensky (Faculty)
Wednesday, July 1 at 7:30 p.m. (Students)
Friday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. featuring Wieniawski and Milhaud (Faculty/Student)
Saturday, July 4 at 3:00 p.m. (Students)
Sunday, July 5 at 3:00 p.m. featuring Ridout/Lenz, Turina and Brahms (Faculty)
Tuesday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m. -- a special presentation by the Pacifica Quartet
Wednesday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. (Students)
Friday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m. featuring Mozart and Schoenfield (Faculty)
Saturday, July 11 at 3:00 p.m. (Students)
Sunday, July 12 at 3:00 p.m. -- a final performance by both students and faculty.
The faculty for the festival includes the Artistic Director, Nina Gordon, and Executive Director, Lisa Nelson, both instructors in the Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music. Other musicians in the Chamber Music Festival are from Illinois State University, Southern Illinois University, Western Illinois University, University of Nebraska, Hope College (MI), Hanyang University (Korea), and the Indianapolis and Illinois Symphony Orchestras.
