Jane Smolen

Administrative Specialist V, School of Music

As Administrative Specialist, Jane is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the School of Music at Illinois Wesleyan University.  In her role she applies the policies of the School of Music, manages the scheduling of concerts and recitals in Westbrook Auditorium, supervises the staff of the Music Office, coordinates event publicity, and maintains the School of Music website.

Jane is the owner/ instructor at Smolen Music Studio since 2002 and is currently teaching an active studio of voice and piano students. A soprano, Jane previously held soloist positions at St. Benedict Parish in Chicago, performed with the Ravenswood Orchestra in Chicago, at the Shakespeare Festival in Bloomington, and continues to perform as a soloist focused mainly on sacred music.  As an arts administrator, Jane was the Director of Music at Immanuel Bible Foundation where she managed the Sacred Music Lending Library, founded and developed the Van Leer Music Series, and directed Immanuel Chorale.  Jane is active in the local arts community in NATS, NaFme, and Bloomington/ Normal MTA.  She serves on the board of directors for Beyond the Books Educational Foundation, and has previously held leadership roles on the Children’s Discovery Museum Guild, and NFMT Orpheus Club.
