Lucy Liu holds a PhD in music theory from Indiana University-Bloomington. Her research
interests include Schenkerian analysis, theories of rhythm, meter & temporality, Formenlehre
(old and new), and the music of Brahms. Lucy has given talks at national conferences
on these topics, such as the Annual Meeting of the Society for Music Theory. In 2018
her dissertation was awarded the Karl Geiringer Scholarship by the American Brahms
Society. At IWU, Lucy teaches Advanced Analysis and Tonal Counterpoint in addition
to the core theory sequence.
