A popular concert ensemble, comprised of music majors and liberal arts students (non-music majors), which performs a variety of sophisticated concert band repertoire.
The Symphonic Winds is one of two Wind Ensembles that performs in concert at Illinois Wesleyan University. The ensemble consistently performs challenging pieces from the best literature available for band. Consisting of approximately fifty students, the Symphonic Winds performs three to four concerts each year, often sharing a concert with the Wind Ensemble and occasionally performing off-campus in the Bloomington-Normal area.
The ensemble may satisfy the University fine arts credit when private instruction is elected concurrently for one full year. While this ensemble satisfies the ensemble credit for music majors, any student who attends Illinois Wesleyan University may participate in the ensemble following the completion of a successful audition or after receiving the permission of the conductor.
