Since 2004, Illinois Wesleyan has participated in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), a project developed and administered by researchers at Indiana University in cooperation with leading experts in student learning across the country.

NSSE is targeted to first-year students and seniors, allowing comparison between the experiences of those two groups on a given campus. Although it asks about student experiences outside the classroom, its primary focus is on the assignments and activities students have encountered in the year of the survey and on their interactions with each other, with faculty, and with staff. It complements other instruments used in IWU's assessment plan and can be used to confirm or enrich findings from other sources.

For more information on the University's assessment program, contact Dr. Michael D. Thompson, Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research, Planning, and Evaluation at mthomps4@iwu.edu.
