What do I need to receive Cable TV?

A TV with a QAM tuner built in that is capable of receiving digital TV signals and a coaxial cable to connect the TV to the wall outlet. We have found that some very inexpensive TV manufacturers or models may not include the QAM tuner. If you find that you are not receiving all or any of the channels you will need purchase a Digital Tuner like this unit available from Amazon for $22.

How do I auto-program my TV to see all of the channels?

Often an auto-program process is necessary the first time you connect your TV to a new video signal, when plugging the TV power back in when returning from break, or after a power outage.
Use your remote control to access the on-screen setup menu.
Find the auto-program or channel setup function and initiate the setup. Initiating this process will perform a channel scan and you should find 100+ channels. You should then see the channel number indicator on your screen advance as your TV searches for channel signals. The process will complete in a minute or two (this may take up to 15 minutes if using the digital converter box). If the scan only finds a limited number of channels you probably have a TV with a lower quality QAM tuner. This will require you to get a digital tuner box available like this unit available from Amazon.

How can I determine if my TV is cable-ready?

In order to receive all of the Cable TV programming, you must have a digital TV capable of receiving HD TV signals. The TV must also have a QAM tuner built in that is capable of receiving digital TV signals. We have found that some very inexpensive TV manufacturers or models may not include the QAM tuner.
If your TV was purchased within the last 4 years, the TV is most likely HD ready. This does not mean that it will have a high quality QAM tuner. This you will have to test. If the channel scan does not find 100+ channels then you may need the digital tuner box described above.

I lost the remote control to my TV and am having problems programming it.

Some TVs require the original remote control to access the on-screen programming features. If this is the case, and you can not access the on-screen programming features with a universal remote control, then you will need to consult your owner's manual and/or call the manufacturer to order a replacement remote control.
