The Department of Hispanic Studies prepares students to become licensed teachers in Spanish (K-12). Students pursuing certification must have a strong academic record and demonstrate the desire and ability to facilitate learning and study abroad in a country where Spanish is spoken (one semester prior to spring of the junior year or enrollment in Educ 360). Hispanic Studies majors should strive to enroll only in courses taught in Spanish in one of the IWU-affiliated, semester-programs listed here. Students will follow a carefully constructed and monitored course of study, which has been designed to meet the standards of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Interested students should contact Educational Studies (edstudy@iwu.edu or 309-556-3027). For more information on the Spanish Teacher Licensure Program, please visit the IWU Educational Studies page.
