There are a number of databases and resources you can consult as you seek to identify
possible funding organizations. If you are interested in pursuing outside funding,
please fill out a
Faculty Information Form
to help us help you identify possible grant sources.
If you plan to submit a proposal to an external funding agency, help our office and
relevant members of the administration plan appropriately by contacting Carlo Robustelli.
In addition, remember that there are a variety of Internal Funding programs available through the Faculty Development Committee.
Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS)
An extensive and extremely useful searchable database of local, regional, national,
and international grant opportunities. IRIS also offers an automatic alert service
to notify you about new requests for proposals (RFPs). Available only via university
computers; Faculty Expertise Services for Illinois Wesleyan faculty only.
Another extensive database searchable by keyword. Grant Advisor also lets you quickly
identify upcoming deadlines in your discipline and offers a downloadable quarterly
newsletter with detailed program information and a list of upcoming opportunities.
National Science Foundation (NSF)
From the NSF Home Page, you can access information on NSF funding opportunities in
a variety of ways. Under the Funding menu, you can select "Finding Funding," which will pull up an alphabetical lisitng of NSF areas, programs, and grant soliciations.
Alternatively, the "Due Dates" pulls up a list of active grant competitions organized by application date.
Grants.gov is the federal government's effort to centralize the grant-making efforts
of 26 federal agencies. This site has both a "Find" side to help potential applicants
identify funding opportunities and an "Apply" side, via which applicants submit their
electronic proposals. A little more than a year old, Grants.gov still has much growing
to do, but it is already becoming a convenient one-stop shopfront for federal programs.
Note: To view application packets or submit a proposal, you will need to download
the free PureEdge software from the Grants.gov site. Mac users should be aware that
PureEdge is not currently fully compatible with the Mac operating system.
