The Policy and Ethics Partners program is designed for students from any major who
are passionate about moral and political issues and like to entertain the best arguments
on both sides of policy debates. In their Gateway seminar, Partners will explore the
relation between our fundamental value judgments and our laws and institutions, while
writing papers in which they take positions on public policy issues. The program will
include off-campus travel and opportunities to engage with scholars and professionals
working in ethics and policy.
The expectations for participation are:
Enroll in a Gateway Colloquia with Professor Andy Engen in Fall 2018
Engage with members of the Bloomington-Normal community working in law and public
policy and scholars doing research in moral philosophy
Become an active member of intellectual life on campus by participating in co-curricular
events related to ethics and policy, such as Poli-Talks, Student Senate meetings,
Ethics Bowl practices, films, “Changing Climates” events, and the Martin Luther King
Jr. Day Teach-In
Enroll in a credit-bearing experience based-course that will provide opportunities
for off-campus travel in Spring 2019
Admission to the Policy and Ethics Partners is based on materials you have already
submitted to IWU, together with your brief response to the question in the application
form. Students in all majors are invited to apply, as well as those who are undecided.
There is absolutely no fee associated with participation in this program.
