Innovation Fellows

The Innovation Fellowship combines a passion for innovation, design and entrepreneurship into a first year experience both inside and outside of the classroom. This fellowship will encourage students to creatively solve social problems, look for ways to recognize inventive opportunities and to create a dynamic culture of entrepreneurship within their community.

Fellows will enroll in a Fall Gateway course called Innovation and Invention that will introduce students to the concepts of creating understandable designs for human interaction, understanding user experiences and how innovation can create a more sustainable environment by teaming up with local non-profit organizations in need of innovative thinking.

The Innovation Fellows program is a full-year experience that encourages students to creatively solve problems, look for ways to recognize inventive opportunities, and to create a dynamic culture of entrepreneurship within their community.

All First-Year Innovation Fellows will:

  • Attend a welcome reception at the beginning of the semester to meet and greet faculty and other Innovation Fellows
  • Enroll in the Innovation Fellows Gateway Colloquia class in Fall 2018. This class is co-taught by an artist and entrepreneur team that share a passion for creative problem solving. The colloquia introduces the concepts of creating understandable designs for human interaction, creating meaningful user experiences, and how innovation can help develop a more sustainable world by teaming up with local non-profit organizations in need of innovative thinking
  • Attend entrepreneurial site visits throughout the both semesters locally and in a mini trip to St. Louis over fall break
  • Enroll in the credit-bearing Design Process course in Spring 2019.  This course will center around a highly experiential curriculum that includes site visits, guest speakers and hands on project based work
  • Attend a 4-night spring break trip to Chicago to meet alumni entrepreneurs and inventors to see state-of-the-art design studios and ideation labs
  • Interact with faculty, alumni, and local entrepreneurs in numerous industries throughout the academic year
  • Strive to create a dynamic culture of entrepreneurship on campus
