Dave Kindred is one of Illinois Wesleyan’s most accomplished alums, having written more than 7000 columns over a distinguished career that has earned him numerous honors. In 1991 he was the recipient of the Red Smith Award, given for outstanding contributions to sports journalism by the Associated Press Sports Editors. In 1997 he was named National Sportswriter of the Year, and he received the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007—the same year he was enshrined in the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame. Currently senior writer for Golf Digest, Dave received the PGA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. He has worked for some of the nation’s largest newspapers, including The Washington Post, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Sporting News, and is the author of 10 books, among them a dual biography of Muhammad Ali and Howard Cosell.
At IWU he teaches Editorial Writing and Reviewing.
