Hortons Pledge to The Wesleyan Fund to Meet Immediate Needs
November 23, 2009
John and Joann Horton have an understanding of the help The Wesleyan Fund for annual
giving can provide the University.
An unrestricted fund composed of a range of annual gifts of every size, The Wesleyan
Fund is used wherever the University needs it most — whether for student scholarships,
academic programs or even to help maintain the beauty of the campus itself. The Hortons
have been giving to The Wesleyan Fund for years. Now the couple is coming to the aid
of The Wesleyan Fund again, this time pledging $250,000 over five years. They know
their gift will go where it is most needed.
The Hortons understand the financial need an unrestricted gift can supply. Joann Horton
is a CFO of a national insurance consulting company while also raising the couple's
two children, John and Emily. As a double major in business administration and political
science at Illinois Wesleyan, John Horton's majors served him well as Operating Partner
and Managing Director at various private equity firms and as CFO or executive positions
at GE, AlliedSignal, and Omega Holdings.
The first Alumni Volunteer Chair to the Board of the Alumni Association in 2000, John
Horton now serves on the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees. He has served
on the Executive Board of the IWU Alumni Association and chaired the Alumni Annual
Fund. The 1997 recipient of the University's Robert M. Montgomery Outstanding Young
Alumnus Award, today John Horton is an investor, advisor and venture capitalist.
