|Anne Marquette '10 was selected to study at Pembroke College in Oxford, England for the 2008-09 school year as part of the Pembroke College Visiting Students Programme.|
|Your hometown?||Naperville, Ill. Also affectionately referred to as “Naper-thrill.”|
|Why Wesleyan?||I had always planned on going to a small, liberal arts school, so I applied to a bunch of them.
The deciding factor wound up being the May Term schedule – I really liked the idea of getting an extra class in every year.
|Your major?||Psychology, with a minor in English.|
|Favorite class?||Probably a tie between Jewish Humor, Animal Behavior, and Practical Criticism.
If only there was an effective way to combine them… Something like Animal Farm, only funnier?
|After Wesleyan?||Right now I’m looking to go into psychological research, which means all sorts of grad school.
What field I’ll go into is still up for grabs, but I’m leaning toward gender constructs. Or language processing. Or sound to color synesthesia. Or…
|For fun?||LOST parties on Thursday nights; working/hanging out in the Writing Center; taking the train into Chicago; coming up with ridiculous responses to overly vague questions.|
|The best?||The best: Rice Krispies and Soy Milk. The worst: Planned obsolescence.|
|Favorite book?||I’d rather read a bunch of short stories than a novel, so I tend to think in terms of authors.
Pretty much anything written by Terry Pratchett, Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, or Ray Bradbury equals good times.
If I had to recommend something right now, it would be Ella Minnow Pea: A Progressively Lipogrammatic Epistolary Fable by Mark Dunn.
|Favorite band?||There’s so much great music to pick from!
I’ll narrow it down to 10: The Decemberists, Tegan and Sara, Simon and Garfunkel, Say Anything, The Killers, Regina Spektor, Flogging Molly, Harry and the Potters, Jimmy Eat World, and Ben Folds.
|Favorite movie?||I literally own five movies: The Shawshank Redemption, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Waking Ned Devine.|
|Favorite quote?||Again, so many to pick from! I’ll narrow it down to three:
“The downside of being better than everyone else is that people tend to assume you’re pretentious.” — E.L. Kersten, Ph.D
“Give a man a fire and he’s warm for the day. But set fire to him and he’s warm for the rest of his life.” — Terry Pratchett
“It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. It is in fact true. It's called living.” — Terry Pratchett
