Cameron Ohlendorf '12 followed his parents, three aunts and three cousins to Illinois Wesleyan. His parents had edited the Wesleyana yearbook, which Ohlendorf worked to bring back to campus in his sophomore year.

Your hometown?

Beecher, Illinois

Why Wesleyan?

I’ve had multiple family members attend IWU and it was a good fit, with small class sizes and personal relationships with professors. I’m still waiting for a name on a bench or something, though.

Your major?

Business Administration - Marketing

Favorite professor or class?

Kevin Strandberg. I went to Barcelona with him for a photography class during May Term. It was an amazing adventure and a lot more fun than the class would have been listening to a lecture. We basically turned the city and surrounding areas of Barcelona into our classroom.

After Wesleyan?

I would love a chance to work with a creative, forward-thinking company in their marketing department, but I’m still exploring my options for the future.

Biggest thrill or best memory?

Meeting former President George W. Bush. It was after he had left office and he looked so relaxed. I got to speak with him for 20 minutes and it’s something I will never forget.

For fun?

Playing golf with my friends. There is something about a golf course that just recharges you after hours of studying.

The best?

Seeing the faces of students and staff as they looked through their yearbooks for the first time last April. The excitement and appreciation everyone had for the book made all of the hard work worth the result.

Favorite book?

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch – Combined with the video of his last lecture, he gives a new and different way to look at life. We sometimes forget to look at the good and fun and he reminds us that we only get so much time on Earth.

Favorite band?

Boston, Rise Against (I know, way different ends of the spectrum)

Favorite movie?

Top Gun, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Favorite quote?

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ohlendorf is a member of the co-ed business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi and plays trumpet in the Titan Band, which performs at men's basketball and football home games.
