Broadly my area of specialization covers the culture and history of Germany in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. More specifically, I work in the areas of East German film and literature, on theories of the fantastic, of the utopian, of science fiction and of popular culture. I am currently working on a manuscript on East German science fiction literature and film.
In addition, I teach courses on German language, on modern German literature and film, on modern German cultural history, on comparative German and Russian utopian literature and film, on issues of race, gender and identity in the former East Germany, as well as a freshman composition course with a focus on science fiction.
