Dwyer's Irish Scones


This delicious Irish delicacy is a simple and traditional recipe that can be enjoyed by all!!

  1. Ingredients
    • 2 cups (280 grams) all purpose flour
    • 1/3 cup (gg grams) granulated white sugar
    • 2 teaspoons (10 grams) baking powder
    • 1/8 teaspooon salt
    • 1/3 cup (76 grams) chilled, unsalted butter
    • large egg, lightly beaten
    • 1 teaspoon (5 grams) pure vanilla extract
    • 1/2 cup (125 ml) heavy whipped cream

    Directions

    1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F
    2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt
    3. Cut the butter into small pieces and blend into the flour mizture with a pastry blender or two knives
    4. In a small measuring cup combine the whipping cream, beaten egg and vanilla
    5. Add this mixture to the flour mixture. Stir until the two are well mixed(Make sure not to overmix this mixture)
    6. Knead dough gently on a lighty floured surface. Roll or pat the dough into a circle that is, relatively, 7 inches round and 11/2 inches thick
    7. Cut your circle into 8 triangular sections
    8. Make a mixture of one well beaten egg with 1 tablespoon heavy cream
    9. Brush the scones with this mixture
    10. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper and place your scones in waiting on to the sheet. Place the sheet in the middle of the oven
    11. Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. After they are taken out of the oven give them time to sufficiently cool
    12. Serve with whipping cream, jam, or fruit, Slainte!
