The IWU Pride Alliance is a student-run organization dedicated to equality for all students regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We provide socially, politically and by any other means necessary to help ensure the safety and equality for all in the community. The Alliance was reactivated in the fall of 2003.
The Pride Alliance functions both on and off campus. We believe that by educating and informing students on campus we can help to make our community a safer and more accepting place. Some of our recent events on campus include:
Masquerade Ball - IWU Pride Alliance's formal, open to
campus and community
National Coming Out Day - students share their coming out
experiences
Movie nights - films relevant to the GLBTQ community; open
to campus
Kate Bornstein - speaker, author and queer activist
Dan Savage - popular openly gay sex columnist
Letter writing campaign to politicians - Valentines writing
to local representatives to support gay marriage.
transgender panel and various events during Gender Issues Week.
Guest speakers at meetings - past speakers include Elizabeth
Birch, former chair of the Human Rights Campaign talking about gay marriage
in America, and our formal faculty advisor, Dr. David Fryer, leading discussion
about what it means to be Queer
National Day of Silence
Transvestite Debutant Ball - philamthropy event
