February 28
Illinois Wesleyan senior guard Hannah Meharry was chosen to the first team and junior forward Heidi Harnish was named to the third team of the all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women’s basketball squads in voting today by league coaches. Meharry finished ninth in the CCIW in scoring (12.1), led the conference in free throw shooting percentage (.837), and was fifth with 3.21 assists per game. Harnisch averaged 9.4 points in league play despite playing a good portion of the year with a stress fracture in her foot. She was third in the CCIW in 3-point accuracy (.426) and made 1.64 3-pointers per game. The Titans finished with a 16-11 overall record and were 8-6 in the CCIW, good for third place in the regular season and finished second to Millikin in the league’s postseason tournament last weekend.

February 26
The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s basketball season ended with an 82-64 loss to Millikin in the championship game of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament in Decatur on Sat., Feb. 26. The Titans, trailing by a 36-27 count at halftime, were outscored 22-6 in the first few minutes of the second half and could not overcome the deficit. Val Fleishman led IWU with 17 points while Amanda Glerum added 11 and Katie Blonn contributed 10. IWU’s season ends at 16-11 while No. 6-nationally ranked Millikin improved to 25-2 and gets the league’s automatic bid into the Division III tournament.

February 25
Heidi Harnisch had 22 points and her 3-point basket with 29 seconds left gave the Illinois Wesleyan University women’s basketball team a 75-73 win over Wheaton in the semifinals of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament in Decatur on Fri., Feb. 25. The No. 3-seeded Titans, winner of six of their last seven, improved to 16-10 and avenged two 30-point losses to No. 2-seed Wheaton (22-4) earlier in the year. Hannah Meharry added 17 points and Katie Blonn snared nine rebounds in the win. Harnisch made 7-of-10 field goals and 6-of-8 3-pointers for IWU, who plays at 2 p.m. Sat., Feb. 26 against No. 1 seed Millikin, a 74-52 winner over Elmhurst in the semis.

February 22
Fittingly, senior Hannah Meharry led the Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team with 18 points on her “Senior Night” as the Titans defeated Elmhurst, 64-55, on Tues., Feb. 22 at the Shirk Center. The Titans improved to 15-10 overall and 8-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, securing third place and the No. 3 seed in the CCIW tournament in Decatur on Friday, when they will play No. 2 seed Wheaton. Katie Blonn had 12 points and eight rebounds and Amanda Glerum contributed 11 points in the win. IWU forced 20 Bluejay turnovers. Elmhurst (15-10, 6-8 CCIW) is the No. 4 seed in the league tourney and will play No. 1 Millikin.

February 19
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team took 21-2 Millikin into overtime before falling, 81-76 on Sat., Feb. 19 in Decatur. The Titans were led by Crystal Dye, who had 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Hannah Meharry (17), Val Fleishman (15), Amanda Glerum (11) and Heidi Harnisch (10) all scored in double figures. The Titans, who had a four-game winning streak snapped in the loss, fall to 14-10 overall and 7-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

February 15
Junior Heidi Harnisch came off the bench to score 26 points and the Illinois Wesleyan women’s team connected on 24-of-24 second half free throws in a 79-67 come-from-behind win at North Central on Tues., Feb. 15. The Titans, who won their fourth straight game and improved to 14-9 overall and 7-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, trailed by a 36-26 count at halftime but IWU outscored the Cardinals (15-8, 5-7), 53-31, after intermission. Hannah Meharry scored 18 and Thea Rogers and Katie Blonn each scored 10 to pace IWU, which shot .906 (29-of-32) from the free throw line in the game and forced 28 North Central turnovers.

February 14
Illinois Wesleyan senior captain Hannah Meharry has been selected as the “Player of the Week” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for the week ending February 12. Meharry helped lead the Titans to two wins last week as she averaged 15 points, three rebounds and 3.5 assists. Playing all 40 minutes in a 57-49 win against Carthage, she had 11 points and four assists. At North Park in a 68-43 win, Meharry scored 19 points with five rebounds and three assists while connecting on six of six from the field, including all three 3-point field goal attempts. For the week she was nine of 17 (.529) from the field, three of six (.500) in 3-point field goals and nine of 12 (.750) from the free throw line.

February 12
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team jumped out to a 44-19 halftime lead and eased to a 68-43 win at North Park on Sat., Feb. 12 in Chicago. In winning their third straight game, the Titans improved to 13-9 overall and 6-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings fell to 11-11, 4-8 CCIW. Hannah Meharry scored 19 and Crystal Dye scored 11, while freshman Thea Rogers had a game-best eight rebounds and six points. IWU held a 34-24 rebounding edge and shot at a 53 percent clip for the game (24-of-45), including an efficient 9-of-13 (.692) from 3-point range.

February 8
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team evened its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin record at 5-5 with a 57-49 win over Carthage on Tues., Feb. 8 at the Shirk Center. IWU was led by Katie Blonn with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Val Fleishman scored 16 and snared six caroms. Heidi Harnisch scored 12 and Hannah Meharry added 11 in the win for IWU (12-9 overall). The Titans held a 35-31 rebound edge over the Lady Reds (11-10, 2-8 CCIW), who committed 25 turnovers and was held to two-of-15 in 3-point shooting.

February 5
Five players scored in double figures as the Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team defeated Augustana, 70-59, on Sat., Feb. 5 at the Shirk Center. Senior captain Hannah Meharry scored 15 and handed out seven assists, while Crystal Dye added 14. Others in double figures were Katie Blonn (13 points, eight rebounds), Val Fleishman (10), and Heidi Harnisch (10 off the bench). The Titans, who forced 23 turnovers in the game, improved to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings drop to 6-14, 3-7 CCIW.

February 1
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team managed only 36 points and was 0-for-18 in 3-point attempts in a 66-36 loss to No. 26-ranked Wheaton on Tues., Feb. 1 at the Shirk Center. The Titans (10-9 overall, 3-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) got 11 points from Val Fleishman and Katie Blonn snared a game-high 15 rebounds. IWU outrebounded the Thunder, 39-32, but was 14-of-52 (.269) from the field and was guilty of 23 turnovers. Wheaton improved to 17-2 overall and 8-0 in the CCIW.

January 29
After building up a 47-36 lead with 6:55 to play, Illinois Wesleyan was outscored 23-3 down the stretch and lost, 59-50, to North Park at the Shirk Center on Sat., Jan. 29. The Titans fall to 10-8 overall and 3-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings improved to 11-7, 4-4 CCIW. Val Fleishman had a “double-double” with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead IWU, while Amanda Glerum scored 13 and Hannah Meharry added 11. The Titans shot 35 percent from the field (18 of 51) but were outrebounded, 41-30.

January 27
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team fell victim to poor shooting from the field (33.8 percent) in losing to Augustana, 81-59, in Rock Island on Thurs., Jan. 27. IWU (10-7 overall and 3-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) was 22-of-65 in the game and managed only 9-of-31 from the floor after intermission. Amanda Glerum scored 14 points to pace the Titans while Hannah Meharry and Crystal Dye each had 11 points and Dye led IWU with five rebounds. The Vikings (5-12, 2-5 CCIW) shot 53 percent (33-of-62) and outscored IWU in the second half, 48-30. The IWU/North Park game will be at 2 p.m. Sat., Jan. 29; earlier schedules showed a different gametime.

January 25
Junior Amanda Glerum dropped in 19 points and handed out five assists and Katie Blonn scored 16 points with nine rebounds as the Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team defeated Carthage, 65-59, on Tues., Jan. 25 in Kenosha, Wis. The Titans improved to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Lady Reds fell to 10-6, 1-4 CCIW). The Titans went on a 15-2 run late in the first half to take a 31-18 intermission lead and Carthage got within two at 59-57 late in the game. The Titans shot 46 percent (25-54), while Carthage shot just 37 percent (21-57) from the field.

January 19
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team improved to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a 69-49 win over North Central on Wed., Jan. 19 at the Shirk Center. The Titans outscored the Cardinals (12-3, 2-2 CCIW), 40-23, in the second half to claim the win. Val Fleishman scored 18 points and snared 10 rebounds while Amanda Glerum scored 16 and Heidi Harnisch and Hannah Meharry each had 11 in the win.

January 15
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team lost a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game at Wheaton, 82-52, on Sat., Jan. 15. The Titans (8-6, 1-2 CCIW) managed only 30.5 percent from the field (18-of-59) and shot only 20.7 percent in the second half (6-of-29). Amanda Glerum was the lone IWU player in double figures, scoring 17 while Katie Blonn grabbed a game-high nine rebounds against the Thunder (12-2, 3-0 CCIW).

January 8
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team started its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season off on a losing note, falling to No. 16-ranked Millikin by a 78-61 count on Sat., Jan. 8 at the Shirk Center. IWU (7-5, 0-1 CCIW) was led by Val Fleishman with 16 points and Hannah Meharry with 14, including three 3-pointers. The Titans outrebounded the Big Blue (10-1, 1-0 CCIW), 35-31, but Millikin shot 60 percent from the field (30-of-50) compared to 37 percent for IWU (21-of-57).

January 3-4
Illinois Wesleyan went 1-1 on its trip to New York City Jan. 3-4 and improved to 7-4 overall. The Titans lost, 57-53, to No. 7-ranked New York University on Jan. 3, then came back to earn a 74-58 win over Baruch College on Jan. 4.
Against NYU, Chiene Jones` 3-pointer with 14 seconds left lifted the Violets to the win. Hannah Meharry hit a jumper with 1:24 left to put IWU ahead 53-52. Neither team scored again until Jones, who finished with five points, swished the go-ahead basket. In a tightly-contested game throughout, neither team led by more than seven points. There were 10 lead changes and eight ties in the back-and-forth affair. Heidi Harnisch led IWU with 17 points. Katie Blonn had 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Amanda Glerum added 15 points and five assists.
Harnisch scored 17 points and hauled down eight rebounds in the win over Baruch (8-2). Baruch led at halftime, 35-31, but the Titans stormed out of the intermission on an 18-4 run for a 10-point lead (49-39) at the 12:48 mark. Blonn scored 15 points and Glerum added 11 points for IWU, who shot 59 percent (16-27) in the second half.

December 28
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped, losing on Tues., Dec. 28, at Wisconsin-Stevens Point by a 75-51 count. The Titans (now 6-3 overall) were led by Heidi Harnisch’s 19 points, while Val Fleishman added 11 and Katie Blonn scored 10 points and snared 11 rebounds. IWU suffered from a poor shooting performance, connecting on 28 percent from the field (17 of 60) and were guilty of 24 turnovers. The Pointers (7-3 overall) are No. 31 in the latest Division III women’s rankings.

December 20
Illinois Wesleyan junior forward Heidi Harnisch has been selected as the winner of the “Player of the Week” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for the week ending Dec. 19. The Urbana High School product helped the Titans defeat Webster 89-74 in Bloomington on Dec. 18 as she scored a team high 17 points and grabbed five rebounds (all offensive) with three assists and a steal. Harnisch was seven of 11 from the field and three of three from the free throw line against Webster, a team that handed a loss on Dec. 8 to then-No. 4 ranked Washington U.

December 18
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team won its sixth straight game, taking an 89-74 decision over Webster on Sat., Dec. 18 at the Shirk Center. Six players scored in double figures for IWU (6-2), led by the 17 from Amanda Glerum and Heidi Harnisch. Katie Blonn scored 14 with 11 rebounds and Hannah Meharry, Val Fleishman and Crystal Dye each scored 13 in the win. The Titans outrebounded the Gorloks, 39-23 and shot 54 percent for the game. Angie Carr scored 19 points for Webster, who fell to 5-3 with the loss.

December 8
Junior Heidi Harnisch scored 19 points with 10 rebounds and junior Val Fleishman scored 17 points with 12 rebounds to lead Illinois Wesleyan’s women’s basketball team to a 66-40 nonconference win over Fontbonne on Wed., Dec. 8 at the Shirk Center. Katie Blonn also grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds as the Titans won their fifth straight game and improved to 5-2. IWU limited the Griffins to 13 second half points and Fontbonne (2-4) shot only .273 (15 of 55) from the field in the game.

December 7
Junior Katie Blonn scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team to its fourth straight win, a 70-49 decision over Eureka at the Shirk Center on Tues., Dec. 7. Amanda Glerum scored 14 points and Val Fleishman also had seven rebounds. Eureka (5-2) got 15 points and six boards from Sarah Deakin. The Titans improved to 4-2.

November 30
Junior Heidi Harnisch scored 21 points and junior Val Fleishman grabbed eight rebounds and added 16 points to lead the Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team to a 70-53 nonconference road win over the University of Illinois-Springfield on Tues., Nov. 30. Amanda Glerum also chipped in 12 points as the Titans won their third straight game to improve to 3-2. Ashley Barton had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Prairie Stars, who committed 23 turnovers and fell to 2-6.

November 27
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team sped off to a 62-19 halftime lead and cruised to a 99-44 nonconference win over MacMurray on Sat., Nov. 27 at the Shirk Center. Freshman Tasha Gaston-Bell came off the bench to score 18 points to lead IWU and reserve center Ashley Fitzgerald snared 13 rebounds in the win. Heidi Harnisch (16 points), Amanda Glerum (15), and Katie Blonn (12) also scored in double figures for the Titans, who improved to 2-2 and shot a blistering .667 from the field in the first half (24 of 36). The Highlanders fell to 0-4.

November 20
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team rallied from a 14-point haltime deficit to tie the game 62-62 at the end of regulation, but were outscored in overtime, 17-9, and lost to Kalamazoo by a 79-71 score in the consolation game of the DePauw Tip-Off Tournament in Greencastle, Ind., on Sat., Nov. 20. Heidi Harnisch scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead IWU (0-2). Amanda Glerum added 15 points and Val Fleishman scored 12. The Titans outscored Kalamazoo (1-1), 40-26, in the second half to force the overtime stanza.

November 19
Heidi Harnisch led four players in double figures with 17 points as the Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team lost to nationally-ranked Washington (Mo.), 69-61, in the opening round of the DePauw Tip-Off Tournament in Greencastle, Ind., on Fri., Nov. 19. Hannah Meharry scored 16, Katie Blonn added 14 and Amanda Glerum netted 12 in the IWU loss. The Titans, who trailed by a 30-27 margin at halftime, will play Kalamazoo at 2 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 20, in the consolation game. Kalamazoo lost to host DePauw, 78-63.

November 4
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team will open its 2004-05 season at the DePauw Tournament in Greencastle, Ind. on Nov. 19-20. The Titans, who were 12-13 last season and finished 7-7 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, will open against Washington (Mo.) at 6 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 19, then will face either Kalamazoo or DePauw on Sat., Nov. 20. The consolation game is at 2 p.m. and the championship game is schedule for 4 p.m. Washington (Mo.) is ranked No. 10 in one preseason Division III poll, was 22-5 last season and earned their 15th straight berth in the NCAA Tournament and won a share of their seventh straight University Athletic Association title.
