HAYES THROWS PERFECT GAME; NAMED CCIW ãPLAYER OF WEEKä
Senior Jenny Hayes (Joliet, West HS) has been named ãPlayer of the Weekä for College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin softball. Hayes was 3-0 with three shutouts in the Titansâ trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla., and pitched a perfect game in a 7-0 win over Wisconsin-LaCrosse on March 18.
Hayes, who also won the leagueâs weekly honor once last season, struck out eight in retiring all 21 batters she faced in the perfect game. She also pitched a one-hitter in a 1-0 win over Lipscomb and a three-hit shutout in a 9-0 decision over Wisconsin-Stout.
With 19 career victories, Hayes is in a tie for No. 7 on IWUâs all-time pitching winners. She has 84 career strikeouts, which is fifth best at IWU.
Other Titans who had good starts to the season include juniors Christie Evitt (Tinley Park HS) and Beth Keller (Normal Community HS), and senior Amy Pollitz (Wheaton, North HS). Evitt is batting .600 (9-for-15) with two runs batted in. Keller is hitting .474 (9-for-19) with three runs, three steals, a double and a triple. Pollitz has a .375 average (9-for-24) with a double, a home run, and five RBI.
