Seven Titans Earn First Team All-League Honors in Football

 

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Seven Illinois Wesleyan University football players have been named to the first team of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-star squad for 1998.
 Repeating as first team members are the senior defensive back tandem of Kevin Fahey and Jon Goldie. They are joined on the first squad by junior wide receiver Zac Williams, junior linemen Cam Nystrom and DeAndre Hardy, sophomore running back Max Milinkovich, and junior linebacker Adam Toelkes.

First Team All-Conference

 Williams (Pekin HS) led the league in catches with 54, in receiving yards with 746, and in scoring with 86 points.
 Nystrom (Crystal Lake, Central HS) and Hardy (Chicago, Whitney Young HS) led an offensive line that enabled the Titans to lead the league in total offense with 463.1 yards per game and in scoring with an average of 38.4 points vs. CCIW opposition.
 Milinkovich (Elmhurst, York HS) is the first Titan to lead the league in rushing since Kurt Swearingen in 1977. Milinkovich had 733 yards on 146 carries vs. league opponents. He was second in all-purpose yards, a combination of rushing and receiving, with 140.0 per game and was also fifth in the CCIW in scoring with 42 points. The 733 yards also placed Milinkovich sixth in total offense among CCIW players.
 Toelkes (Streamwood, Schaumburg HS) had 56 tackles against league opponents, including 25 solo. He had four tackles for yardage loss, three quarterback sacks, and recovered two fumbles.
 Fahey (Oak Forest, Sandburg HS), a first team choice last year as both a defensive back and kick returner, led the CCIW in interceptions with seven for 57 yards and one touchdown. He also led the CCIW in punt returns with 11.1 average on 17 returns. He had 34 tackles with 11 pass break-ups vs. CCIW opponents.
 Goldie (St. Charles HS) was on the first team as both a defensive back and return specialist. He led the conference in kickoff returns with an average of 26.6 yards in 10 returns. He made 38 total tackles, including 22 solo, and had three interceptions with four pass break-ups. Goldie earned honorable mention all-conference as a freshman.

Second Team All-Conference

 Five other Titans earned second team notice, including senior wide receiver Jim Callaghan, senior quarterback Chad Beaty, sophomore linemen Wade Kennedy and Shawn Schadle, and senior linebacker Jed Shasteen.
 Callaghan (Chicago, St. Rita HS) was ninth in the league with 23 receptions for 505 yards and finished fourth in scoring with 48 points.
 Beaty (DeKalb HS), also a second team selection in 1997, finished second in the league to Wheatonâs Tim Hardy in both passing (with 1,885 yards) and total offense (with 1,836 yards). He completed 123 of 234 passes for 25 touchdowns. Beaty was an all-CCIW baseball player in 1996.
 Kennedy (Arrowsmith, Normal U High) had 25 total tackles in CCIW play and made six tackles for losses totaling 34 yards. The Eastern Illinois transfer had three quarterback sacks.
 Schadle (Crystal Lake, Marian Catholic HS) was third on the team with 48 tackles in CCIW play. He had five tackles for loss and one quarterback sack.
 Shasteen (Sullivan HS) led the team in league play with 57 total tackles, including 20 solo. He made seven tackles for losses totaling 24 yards.

Second Place Finish

 IWU had a 7-2 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the CCIW, good for a second place tie. It was IWU's 14th second-place finish since the league started in 1946, more than any other school in league history. With 10 total league titles, IWU has won the CCIW championship three times and has finished second three times in the last seven years.
 
 

IWU Nets Five on All-CCIW Soccer Teams

 

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Five Illinois Wesleyan University menâs and womenâs soccer players were chosen all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads in voting by league coaches Tuesday.
 For the menâs team, Josh Shipley was named to the first team while Yomi Ademola and Chris Wirsing earned second team honors. For the women, freshman forward Julie Brooks and senior defender Erin Gallagher were both chosen to the first team.

Men's Soccer

 Shipley, a sophomore from Grayslake (HS), and Ademola, a freshman from Lagos, Nigeria (Hillcrest HS), played key defensive roles on a team that allowed only 1.8 goals per game in its final five league contests. Shipley also added an assist in a 2-1 win over Millikin.
 Wirsing, a sophomore midfielder from Grayslake (HS), scored one goal and added one assist against CCIW opponents.

Women's Soccer

 Brooks (Belleville, West HS) scored four goals for eight points in conference play. She tied for fifth in the league in goals scored.
 Gallagher (Springfield, Southeast HS) was named to the all-conference squad for the third consecutive season.
