Dennis Martel

Chris Schumacher is in his eighth year at Illinois Wesleyan University and is the head men's and women's track and field coach. Under Schumacher’s direction the Titans have produced 59 All-Americans including one relay team and two individual national champions. During his tenure, nearly every school record has been broken.

Schumacher is a 1991 graduate of Wisconsin LaCrosse, where he was an All-American for three years in track, competing on teams that won three national championships. Schumacher, who earned a master’s degree in physical education in 1992 at Wisconsin-LaCrosse, was promoted to associate professor of physical education at IWU in February 2003. In the fall of 2002 Schumacher earned the UW- LaCrosse Multi-Cultural Alumni Award for his accomplishments while at IWU and his human and ethical qualities.

"It is very important for me to have mutual respect with the student athlete. My office is always open and I emphasize communication and a stress free environment. I have very high expectations for all the athletes and they should expect the same from me. I strive to make the athletes better competitors through understanding and providing for their individual needs. My ultimate goal is to provide an atmosphere where the student-athlete can gain confidence and maturity to attain success far beyond their years as a Titan athlete."

Schumacher and his wife, Amy, have a daughter (Kienna) and a son (Keondre).
