December 9
For the third straight season, defenseman Alan Mila has been chosen as the "Most Valuable Player" for the Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team. Mila was a four-time all-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin selection and was chosen to the second team of the all-North Central region squad by members of the National Soccer Coaches Association. Sophomore Jon Yee was chosen as the “Most Improved Player” for the Titans, who finished 5-10-3 overall and 1-5-1 in CCIW play. Sophomore Chris Miller and junior Kevin Hegi were selected as the team’s co-captains for 2005. Head coach David Barrett awarded letters to 23 IWU soccer players, including 16 who will return for next fall.

November 16
Illinois Wesleyan University senior Alan Mila was named to the first team of the all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin men’s soccer squads, chosen in voting by league coaches on Nov. 15. A defenseman from Bartlett, Ill. (Wheaton Academy), Mila earned the distinction of being recognized by league coaches for the fourth straight season. The Titans finished with an overall mark of 5-10-3 and were 1-5-1 in the CCIW.

October 30
The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s soccer team lost to Carthage, 1-0, on Sat., Oct. 30 at Wisconsin-Parkside. The Titans’ season ended with an overall record of 5-10-3 (.361) and a ledger of 1-5-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. Carthage improved to 10-7-2 overall, 3-3-1 in the CCIW. IWU was outshot, 20-8, as Matt Robertson made seven saves. Max Zbilut’s goal (his 10th of the year) came in the 84th minute off a deflection.

October 26
The No. 10-nationally ranked University of Chicago men's soccer team took advantage of an own goal at the 71:30 mark and claimed a 2-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan on Tues., Oct. 26 in Chicago. The Titans, who fell to 5-9-3, got an unassisted goal from senior Scott Hernandez in the 60th minute to tie the score at 1-1 after Chicago’s Brian Standerfer opened the scoring at the 8:40 mark. With the win, Chicago (11-1-3) improved to 8-0-2 at home this season as the Maroons held the shots advantage over the Titans, 16-4.

October 23
Seven Illinois Wesleyan University senior men’s soccer players, including three-time all-conference player Alan Mila were feted before the game on Sat., Oct. 23. Along with Mila, the seniors are Dave Beckett, Reed Grimwood, Matt Robertson, Jeremy Witt, Scott Hernandez, Nick Hogren. The Titans fell to 5-8-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as Millikin got goals from three different players and downed IWU, 3-0.

October 19
Sophomore Chris Miller scored a goal in the 26th minute and goalkeeper Matt Robertson made four saves and had the shutout as the Illinois Wesleyan men’s soccer team defeated Webster, 1-0, at IWU’s Neis Field on Tues., Oct. 19. The Titans improved to 5-7-3 overall with the nonconference win and the Gorloks fell to 3-9-1. Mark Opal had the assist on Miller’s goal, his team-leading fifth of the season.

October 16
The Illinois Wesleyan men’s soccer team managed only three shots in losing at No. 20-nationally ranked Wheaton, 6-0, on Fri., Oct. 15. The Titans are 4-7-3 overall and 1-2-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action while the Thunder improved to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in league play. Wheaton’s all-time record against IWU in men’s soccer is 18-0.

October 12
Joshua Lacey scored an unassisted goal in the 88th minute and Jeremy Witt had the complete game shutout as the Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team defeated Rose-Hulman, 2-0, in a nonconference game on Tues., Oct. 12 in Terre Haute, Ind. The Titans ran their unbeaten streak to three games and improved to 4-6-3 as the Engineers dropped to 7-7. Chris Miller scored IWU's other goal in the 50th minute. Witt stopped six shots on goal as the Titans were outshot, 15-13.

October 9
The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s soccer team battled North Central to a 1-1 double overtime draw on Sat., Oct. 9 at IWU’s Neis Field. The Titans are 3-6-3 overall and 1-2-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action. Trailing by a 1-0 count, Joshua Lacey tallied IWU’s only goal on an assist from Alan Mila in the 18th minute. Jeremy Witt made five saves in the 110-minute contest. North Central is 4-7-1, 1-2-1 CCIW.

October 7
Joshua Lacey had two goals and three assists and Kevin Hegi had two goals and an assist as the Illinois Wesleyan University men’s soccer team blasted Benedictine, 7-1, on Thurs., Oct. 7, at Glen Ellyn. The Titans (now 3-6-2 overall) also got goals from Ryan Smith and Paul Caracciolo, and assists from Scott Hernandez (two), David Beckett and Steve Perona. Matt Robertson made three saves in 72 minutes of work in goal.

October 2
Despite a pair of goals from sophomore Chris Miller, the Illinois Wesleyan University men’s soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime to Elmhurst on Sat., Oct. 2, at IWU’s Neis Field. The Titans (now 2-6-2 overall and 1-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) trailed 2-0 at halftime before Miller tied the game at 2-2 with goals in the 52nd and 68th minutes. Simi Wakawa's goal four minutes into the overtime period won the game for the Bluejays, who improved to 8-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.

September 25
The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s soccer team was shut out by North Park, 1-0, on Sat., Sept. 25 at IWU’s Neis Field. The Titans fell to 2-5-2 overall and are 1-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action and outshot North Park, 8-6. Matt Moncada tallied the Vikings’ lone, unassisted goal in the 42nd minute as regionally-ranked North Park improved to 7-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the CCIW.

September 22
The Illinois Wesleyan men’s soccer team dropped a non-conference game to Dominican, 3-1, on Wed., Sept. 22 at IWU’s Neis Field. Senior Alan Mila scored his first career goal as he volleyed the ball across the goal line after a pass from Steve Perona following a corner kick into the mixer by Chris Miller. Dominican had eight shots on goal compared to four by IWU. Dominican, the No. 8-ranked team in the Central region, improved to 6-1 while the Titans are now 2-4-2 and host North Park, the region’s No. 9-ranked team, on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.

September 18
Sophomore Chris Miller and senior Reed Grimwood scored goals as the Illinois Wesleyan men’s soccer team toppled Augustana, 2-0, in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener at IWU’s Neis Field on Sat., Sept. 18. Kevin Hegi assisted on both goals as Miller scored at the 69:58 mark and Grimwood hit the back of the net less than three minutes later. Goalkeeper Matt Robertson made five saves for the Titans, who improved to 2-3-2 overall (1-0 CCIW) as Augustana fell to 4-3.

September 16
The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s soccer team slipped to 1-3-2 this season, falling by a 2-0 count to Washington (Mo.) on Thurs., Sept. 16 at IWU’s Neis Field. The Titans were limited to only four shots with shots on goal coming from Mark Opal and Paul Caracciolo. Washington U. got goals by Rob Weeks and David Borton. The Titans open College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play Sat., Sept. 18 with a 5 p.m. home game against Augustana.

September 12
The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s soccer team was shut out by Concordia, 3-0, on Sun., Sept. 12, in Mequon, Wis. IWU had nine shots and Concordia had 13 with five shots on goal. Pete Schrieber had two goals for the Falcons as Concordia improved to 6-0. The Titans are 1-2-2 and got two shots on goal from Mark Opal and one from Chris Miller.

September 11
Senior forward David Beckett scored two second half goals and freshman Colin Aubin added one more as the Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team picked up its first win of the year in a 3-1 defeat of the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sat., Sept. 11 in Milwaukee. The Titans, who improved to 1-1-2, were trailing at halftime, 1-0.

September 8
Despite a late goal from freshman Colin Aubin, the Illinois Wesleyan men’s soccer team fell in overtime, 2-1, at St. Xavier on Sept. 8. Aubin tied the game at 1-1 in the 60th minute on a pass from sophomore Mark Opal. Freshman Matt Prunckle scored the gamewinner just 1:11 into the first extra stanza. Titan goalkeeper Jeremy Witt faced five shots and made three saves in his first start of the season. The Titans are 0-1-2 while St. Xavier improved to 2-1-1.

September 6
The Illinois Wesleyan men’s soccer team played to its second tie of the season, matching Aurora 1-1 in two overtimes on the road Mon., Sept. 6. The Titans (0-0-2) and Spartans were scoreless until sophomore Mark Opal put through an unassisted goal in the 81st minute. Aurora then tied the match two minutes later on a goal by Marshall Ward. IWU outshot Aurora, 17-15. Titans' goalie Matt Robertson made six saves.

September 4
The Illinois Wesleyan men’s soccer team played to a two-overtime draw against Marian (Wis.) in the season opener at Neis Field on Sat., Sept. 4. Senior goalkeeper Matt Robertson had one save in the shutout and the Titans managed to outshoot the Sabres, 16-1 with sophomore forward Mark Opal and senior Dave Beckett each issuing four shots on goal.

September 2004
The Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team opens its regular season on Sat., Sept. 4 with a home match against Marian at 12:30 p.m. at IWU's Nies Field. The Titans have preseason exhibitions on Sat., Aug. 28 at Illinois College at 12 p.m. and against Parkland Junior College on Tues., Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. at Nies Field.
