IWU 8, North Central 0
 October 27, 2001, Bloomington, Ill.

The final game of the season always brings with it a mixed bag of emotions. We knew our chances for receiving an at-large berth to the NCAA tournament were very slim, so our final regular season game against league foe North Central would be the final stage of our journey in 2001. After a sluggish first half, our team played very well in scoring 6 goals in the second half and closed the season on a very high note.

Although we were ahead 2-0 and not in any danger of relinquishing the lead heading into half-time, our performance wasn't up to the standards we set for ourselves. A few of our players weren't doing their jobs, and were challenged to accept the responsibility to do them in the second half. These things are important to the development of our soccer team: we must hold ourselves to the highest standards and expectations at all times.  Every player on the team knows her job, and must be held accountable when she isn't performing to her capabilities. When all players are doing their respective jobs, it is really fun to watch the team work as a group.  This is exactly what happened in the second half on Saturday as we completely overmatched North Central and put the game out of reach with two goals in the first 2 minutes.

It was Senior Day and we said good-bye to four women who have helped raise the program to its current level. April App, Julie Brooks, LJ Hachmeister, and Amy Attivissimo each have contributed to the rise of the Titan women's soccer program since 1998. App and Brooks finished their careers on very high notes, each scoring two goals and notching an assist in their final collegiate game.

Here are a few impressive stats about these women:

•  Julie and April finish their careers as the second and third all-time leading scorers in the brief history of women's soccer.  Julie finishes her career with 50 goals and 17 assists for 117 total points.  April closes her career with 33 goals and 14 assists for 80 points.

•  The Class of 2002 leaves with a career record of 52-20-1, by far the best of any four-year group of players.

•  They helped elevate the program to one of the Top 10 teams in the region.

•  They were a part of the program's first ever win against a nationally ranked opponent.

As much as they contributed on the field, their personalities in the team will be missed even more. They are all special people whom we wish well as they begin their post-college soccer lives and hope they always remain connected to the Titan soccer program.

I hope these accounts have been informative and useful for you to keep up on the Titans this season. I have enjoyed putting them together for you and look forward to even bigger and better news in 2002!

 All the best,
