NCAA Division III National Indoor Track Meet
Notes - Friday, March 11

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - (March 11) Defending champion Wisconsin-Oshkosh leads both the men's and women's field after the first day of the NCAA Division III indoor track and field championships at Illinois Wesleyan's Shirk Center in Bloomington.

WOMEN
Defending champion Wisconsin-Oshkosh holds the first day lead with 22 points at the NCAA Division III indoor track and field at Illinois Wesleyan's Shirk Center in Bloomington. The University of St. Thomsa is in second place with 15 points while North Central (12) is in third and Wartburg (10) is in fourth.

In the weight throw, junior Robyn Jarocki of Wisconsin-Oshkosh set a meet record, a Division III season best and a Shirk Center record with a toss of 67 feet-2 inches. Kelly Godsey of Bates finished second with a throw of 65 feet-11 ¾ inches.

Wartburg College's unit of Jill Wagaman, Lindsay Albertsen, Heidi Porter, and Missy Buttry set a meet record in the distance medley relay, winning the event with a time of 11:41.66. It is Buttry's 11th national championship.

Sophomore Megan Rossi of North Central won the pole vault at a height of 12 feet-3 ½ inches. Meghan Volland of Augustana (Ill.) placed second at 11 feet-11 ¾ inches.

Kristal Grigsby a junior from the University of St. Thomas, had a Division III-best leap of 19 feet-2 1/2 inches in winning the long jump. It is also a Shirk Center record. Senior Tessa Donoghue of Westfield State finished second at 18 feet-10 inches.


MEN

Wisconsin-Oshkosh also holds the men's opening day lead with 17 points, leading Nebraska Wesleyan (15) and North Central (12). Defending champion Wisconsin-Lacrosse is tied for 12th with six points.

Freshman Andre Brown of Farmingdale-SUNY leaped 23 feet-10 inches to claim the long jump title. Fred Jones of Tufts was second at 23 feet-9 inches and Eric Ray, the 2004 indoor champ, was third with a jump of 23 feet-3 ½ inches.

Junior Uzoma Orji of Massachusetts Institute of Technology claimed the men's weight throw with a meet record and facility record toss of 64 feet-9 1/4 inches. Wisconsin-Oshkosh sophomore Brandon Houle was second with a distance of 62 feet-3 3/4 inches.

Nebraska Wesleyan won the distance medley relay with a time of 10:06.42 with a team consisting of Vince Sickler, Evan Knight, Blake Henning, and Aaron Dye. North Central placed second with a run of 10:07.98.

Cale VanGenderen, a senior from Central (Iowa) went 6 feet-11 inches to capture the high jump title. Senior Joe Thomas of the University of St. Thomas finished second with a height of 6 feet-9 3/4 inches and Otterbein sophomore Bill Myers was third at 6 feet-8 3/4 inches.

Widener University junior Macharia Yuot, was the winner in the 5,000 meter run, going out in a time of 14:34.72. Finishing second was Mark Lalonde, a senior from Wisconsin Stevens Point, with a run of 14:36.67 while senior Kevin Pool of Allegheny was third with a time of 14:37.66.
