The Shirk Center is named in honor of Russell Shirk, Illinois Wesleyan Class of 1943, and his wife, Betty Shirk. The center features a 200-meter, six-lane indoor track plus full indoor track-and-field facilities, two baseball/softball batting cages, and four multi-use courts for tennis, recreational basketball, volleyball, and badminton, as well as space to practice golf. It also houses facilities for baseball/softball infield practice. The performance arena seats 2,500 for varsity basketball and volleyball. A fitness center includes three racquet courts and an exercise room containing fitness equipment and free weights. The Fort Natatorium is connected to the Shirk Center, forming a comprehensive activity center for use by all Illinois Wesleyan students.
