BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Senior Alison Oliver has been named "Most Valuable Player" for the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team.
Oliver (Bannockburn, Woodlands Academy), who for the past two seasons has been the team's "Most Improved Player" in voting done by her teammates, was 15-3 at No. 5 singles this season and earned a third place finish in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament.
Sophomore Lindy Wick (Highland, Breese Mater Dei) was chosen this year's "Most Improved Player" and sophomore Deanna Deschler (Champaign, Central HS) was elected captain for the 2002 team.
Wick was 14-4 at No. 6 singles, where she finished third in the CCIW championships, while Deschler was 11-7 at No. 1 singles.
Two others who earned third place finishes in the conference tournament, sophomore Mialy Ramaroson (Islamabad, Pakistan) and freshman Diane Arnold (Bloomington HS), were named to the second team of the CCIW all-league squads. Ramaroson was 13-6 at No. 3 singles and Arnold was 13-7 as the No. 2 singles player in her first collegiate season.
Junior Krista Vogel (Bloomington HS) was 11-8 at No. 4 singles this season and has moved to 14th in all-time IWU singles victories with a career mark of 34-21. Vogel and Arnold paired for a 12-4 record at No. 3 doubles and a third place finish in the CCIW championships.
Head coach Sally Mangina awarded letters to six players. They are, with hometowns and high schools:

JUNIOR - Krista Vogel (Bloomington HS).
SOPHOMORES - Deanna Deschler (Champaign, Central HS); Mialy Ramaroson (Islamabad, Pakistan); Lindy Wick (Highland, Breese Mater Dei).
FRESHMAN - Diane Arnold (Bloomington HS).
