Eight Titans Earn All-League Honors in Football

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Eight Illinois Wesleyan University football players have been named to the all-league squads of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin for 1999, selected by league coaches today in Naperville.

Repeating as first team members are senior wide receiver Zac Williams, senior linemen Cam Nystrom and DeAndre Hardy, and senior linebacker Adam Toelkes. They are joined on the first squad by junior wide receiver Shawn Emerson.

On the all-CCIW second team is senior quarterback Brian Shemansky, sophomore tight end Shaun Friziellie, and junior defensive lineman Shawn Schadle, a second team selection in 1998.

First Team All-Conference

Williams (Pekin HS), who led the CCIW in receiving in 1998, was second in the CCIW this fall with 39 catches and 420 receiving yards.

Nystrom (Crystal Lake, Central HS) and Hardy (Chicago, Whitney Young HS) led an offensive line that enabled the Titans to gain 330.4 yards per game of total offense.

Toelkes (Streamwood, Schaumburg HS) had 46 tackles against league opponents, including 20 solo. He had three tackles for yardage loss and a quarterback sack.

Emerson (Zion, Zion-Benton HS) was first in the league with 41 receptions and 584 yards. He also led the league with a 24.9 yard kickoff return average and was second in all-purpose yardage with 119.0 per game. He tied for fifth in scoring with 36 points.

Second Team All-Conference

Shemansky (Pekin HS) completed 112 of 208 passes for 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns in six conference games. He led the CCIW with 1,327 yards of total offense and was third in passing yardage, only 53 yards behind Wheaton's Mitch Slater. Shemansky missed the season finale vs. North Park with a broken finger.

Friziellie (Prospect HS) had 15 catches for 176 yards vs. league opponents.

Schadle (Crystal Lake, Marian Catholic HS) was third on the team with 39 tackles in CCIW play. He had five tackles for 11 yards of loss and one quarterback sack for a seven-yard loss.
