IWU Nets Eight on All-CCIW Soccer Teams

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Eight Illinois Wesleyan University men’s and women’s soccer players were chosen to the 2001 all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads in voting by league coaches Tuesday in Naperville.

For the women, sophomore midfielder Ann Bernard and freshman defender Marisa Johnson were chosen to the first team, while junior goalkeeper Alicia Heeger, seniors Julie Brooks and April App, and sophomore Christine Reed were named to the second team.

For the men, senior goalkeeper Adam Wachholtz and freshman defenseman Alan Mila were both chosen to the first team.

Women's Soccer

Bernard (St. Charles HS), who was also a first team all-CCIW selection a year ago, scored three goals and added two assists against CCIW opponents this fall.

Johnson (Wayne, St. Charles East HS) tied for fifth in the league in scoring with nine points. She had three goals and three assists.

Heeger (Chesterfield, Mo., Lafayette HS) was a second team all-CCIW goalkeeper last fall and was all-conference as a defender in 1999. This fall she was fourth in the CCIW with a 1.17 goals against average, allowing seven goals in six games with two shutouts.

Brooks (Belleville, West HS), who was a first team all-CCIW selection in 1998, 1999, and 2000, scored three goals and added three assists against CCIW opponents this fall.

App (Elburn, Kaneland HS) is a second team all-CCIW selection for the third straight season. This season she led IWU in scoring with 10 points, good for fourth in the league, with four goals and two assists.

Reed (Crystal Lake, South HS) had two goals with an assist for five points.

Men's Soccer

Wachholtz (Newburgh, Ind., Castle HS) had a 1.62 goals against average in league play, allowing 11 goals in six games.

Mila (Bartlett, Wheaton Academy) was a solid defensive player on a team that lost twice in double overtime games and played Augustana to a scoreless tie.
