IWU's Eash Named Academic All-District

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan University senior Kyle Eash has been elected to the Verizon District Five College Division all-academic football team and will join representatives of seven other districts on the Verizon Academic All-America national ballot.

Eash, a quarterback from Bloomington (HS), is a double major in biology and business with a grade-point average of 3.98 (on a 4.0 scale). He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa undergraduate honors organization; Phi Kappa Phi, national scholastic honorary for juniors and seniors; and Beta Beta Beta, national science honorary.

He is the co-author of academic scientific paper titled "A Simple Chemoselective Method for the Deprotection of Acetals and Ketals Using Bismuth Nitrate Pentahydrate" that was published in "Journal of Organic Chemistry" and another, "Deprotection of Ketoximes Using Bismuth Nitrate Pentahydrate", which was published in the journal "Synthesis." A poster presentation of Eash's was featured at the 125th national meeting of the American Chemical Society in August.

Eash was a co-captain of this season's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin co-championship team. He led the CCIW in pass efficiency as he completed 24 of 49 passes for 340 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 240 yards on 61 carries.

He has also been a member of the IWU track team and serves as the chair of the CCIW student advisory committee.

Eash has served as a volunteer for the local Big Brothers program and has been a participant in the local Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk fundraiser. He has been the philanthropy chairman for the local Sigma Chi fraternity chapter and has been treasurer of the IWU Interfraternity Council.

An IWU Presidential Scholar, he is a member of the president's panel for multi-talented students, serves on the IWU student-alumni council, and has addressed alumni groups and potential students.

Eash is the son of Norm and Cheryl Eash, 1001 E. Monroe Dr., Bloomington.

The all-district teams were chosen by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. To be considered for the GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America squads, players must be of at least sophomore standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 (of 4.0), and be a starter or first-line reserve.

Senior linebacker Andy Rader (Carlock, Normal U High) was elected to the second team of the academic all-district V football team, but only first team members advance to the national Verizon Academic All-America ballot.

Senior running back Aaron Telford (Bloomington, Central Catholic HS), senior defensive back Brad Andrekus (Carol Stream, Glenbard North HS), and junior defensive end Steve Schilsky (Springfield, Sacred Heart Griffin HS) were all voted to the third team of the all-district V squads.
