Illinois Wesleyan's women's soccer team kept alive its hopes for an at-large berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament with a 3-0 victory over North Park in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match Saturday at Bloomington.
The Titans increased their school record for victories while improving to 15-4 overall and second in the CCIW at 4-2. The previous IWU mark for wins was 12 last year.
NCAA bids will be announced today. Wheaton has clinched the conference title and will get the CCIW's automatic berth in the NCAA field.
Christine Reed gave the Titans a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on a pass from Lauren Boegen.
Illinois Wesleyan's Ann Bernard scored the first of two unassisted goals in the 27th minute. Her second goal came in the 68th minute.
IWU goalies Alicia Heeger and Lisa Hampton combined for the shutout. Heeger did not have to make any saves in the first half. Hampton had two saves in the second half. Wesleyan took 15 shots on goal to the Vikings' two.
"We've put ourselves in position for an NCAA bid," IWU coach Steve Berry said. "Our defense played huge all game. We kept the ball in our half of the field pretty much all match."
