Volleyball splits two matches

The IWU volleyball team defeated Savannah College for Art and Design, 15-11, 15-7, 15-13, before losing to host Washington University, 15-8, 15-9, 15-3 in the final day of the Washington Midwest Invitational at St. Louis.
The Titans (20-8) finished 2-2 in the tournament. They played without two players because of injury and another because of mononucleosis.
"We played great against Savannah. They were really a big team," IWU coach Kim Nelson-Brown said. "Against Washington, we kind of fell apart. There was a lack of talking and a lack of discipline. But overall, I'm happy with the weekend. To come out of that tournament 2-2 is good."
Nelson-Brown said the Titans got a lift from freshman Beth Crowley. "This was the first weekend she's played consistently with the varsity and I thought she did a great job," Nelson-Brown said.
Liz Niemann was the lone IWU player named to the tournament team.
