ST. LOUIS -- Julie Brooks scored three goals as Illinois Wesleyan's women's soccer team tied a school record for victories in a season Thursday with a 5-0 nonconference triumph over Fontbonne.
The Titans improved to 12-4 with four matches remaining in the regular season. Illinois Wesleyan had 12 victories last fall.
Brooks gave the Titans a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on a pass from Christine Reed. Ann Bernard then scored on an assist from Reed five minutes later to give IWU a 2-0 lead. The second assist gave Reed a school-record 13 this season.
Brooks had an unassisted goal in the 24th minute as the Titans held a 3-0 halftime advantage.
April App scored on a pass from Lauren Boegen in the 51st minute before Brooks got her second unassisted goal in the 57th minute for the final margin.
Brooks leads the Titans with 14 goals. She holds the season record with 16.
IWU's Alicia Heeger and Amy Attivissimo combined for the shutout as each goalie played a half. Heeger did not have to make any stops in the first half. Attivissimo made four saves after the break.
Illinois Wesleyan took 20 shots on goal to the Griffins' four.
"It was a game we dominated from the beginning," said IWU coach Steve Berry. "It was nice to come this far and get people a lot of playing time.
"If we win all of our games, we have a good shot at getting an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. We're putting a lot of urgency on our matches."
