Hachmeister
wins third straight race
Illinois Wesleyan sophomore
Tim
Hachmeister (Elmhurst, Ill./Illinois Math and Science Academy) won
his third consecutive cross country invitational Saturday, capturing the
Prairie Fire Invitational at Galesburg.
Hachmeister used a 5:03
first mile to take control on the moderately hilly, 8,000-meter course,
which he covered in a season best of 25:50. The runner-up was 1:05 behind.
Hachmeister's other
victories came at Whitewater, Wis. (Sept. 21), and Beloit, Wis. (Sept.
28)
"He's starting to run
with the confidence of knowing he's one of the elite runners," said IWU
coach Chris Schumacher. "He looks so confident and relaxed when he's running."
IWU scored 60 points
to finish second in the seven-team meet behind Western Illinois (24). The
Titan women also placed second to WIU, 24-60.
Sophomore Valerie
Lambrecht (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North HS) led IWU in third, clocking
20:03 on the 5,000-meter course. Western Illinois's Eva Zellman won in
19:25.
