LAST WEEK: The Illinois Wesleyan defense limited Augustana to 288 yards of offense, but could manage only 181 yards of offense in a 14-7 loss to the Vikings. Junior linebacker Mike Clark (Joliet, West HS) had six solo tackles and assisted on 11 more to lead IWU with 17 total tackles. Senior Creighton Drescher (Palatine HS) finished with 11 total tackles and senior Brad Andrekus (Carol Stream, Glenbard North HS) had six tackles and recovered a fumble. Senior Aaron Telford (Bloomington, Central Catholic HS) rushed for 39 yards on 14 carries and had an 11-yard TD carry with 2:02 to play in the first half. Junior Josh Akin (Naperville, Benet Academy) completed 10 of 18 passes for 100 yards. Sophomore Tim Snyder (Glen Ellyn, Glenbard South HS) had four catches for 46 yards.

2-2 RECORD: The two losses for IWU are the earliest in a season since the 1995 team lost its first two games to be 0-2. That team was 1-3 before winning its last five games. The Titans only lost once in 1996 and 2000 and were 3-0 before losing in 1997 and 1999; and 5-0 before losing in 1998.
FOR THE RECORD: IWU teams are 41-23 (.640) in October in the Norm Eash era . . .The Titans are 51-15 (.7773) at home and 43-25-1 on the road (.630) under Eash. . .IWU is 40-8 (.833) at Wilder Field in the last 11 years, including 2001 . . .Dating back to 1995, IWU has won 46 of its last 57 games (.807) and has been over the .500-mark for seven straight years and 11 of the last 12 years. . . Prior to a Sept. 8 loss at Washington U., IWU had won 11 straight regular season non-league games, dating back to a 24-21 loss to Simpson in 1995.
THE COACHES: Norm Eash, a 1975 IWU graduate, is in his 15th season as head coach at Illinois Wesleyan. He has an overall record of 94-40-1 (.700) and a CCIW mark of 73-32-1 (.693) with conference titles in 1992, 1994, 1996 and 2000. Eash is fifth in all-time CCIW coaching wins and is second in victories at IWU, behind Don "Swede" Larson (166 wins in 33 years, 1954-86) . . . Paul Krohn is in his ninth season as the coach of the Bluejays and has a career mark of 18-59-1 (.237) and a record of 11-46-1 (.198) in the league. Krohn was an assistant at Mankato State (Minn.) for 12 years had helped the Mavericks to two Division II playoff appearances.
THE SERIES: In a series that dates back to 1930, Illinois Wesleyan holds a 41-7-1 lead in games vs. Elmhurst. The Titans have won the last 15 meetings and 16 of the last 18 games between the two schools, including a 23-7 win in Bloomington last year.. . This is Elmhurst’s Homecoming game.
CCIW STATS: In the latest CCIW statistics, IWU is fifth in total offense with 360.0 yards per game and ranks second in total defense, allowing 217.2 yards per game. . . Tim Snyder is second in the CCIW with 68.8 receiving yards per game and Aaron Telford is sixth with 74.8 rushing yards per game. Kevin Kaplan leads the league with an average of 15.2 yards per punt return. . . Josh Akin is fifth in the league with 110.0 passing yards per game. . . In 2001 non-league games, CCIW teams were 15-8 vs. opponents.
SCOUTING THE BLUEJAYS: Elmhurst is 2-3 overall (with both wins in overtime) and 1-1 in the CCIW. . . In non-league play, Elmhurst beat Benedictine 40-32 in OT and lost to Ripon (49-40) and Ohio Wesleyan (50-16). . . The Bluejays lost to Augustana, 62-0, two weeks ago and beat North Park, 34-31 in OT, last Saturday. . . Quarterback Juan Quesada was named CCIW “Offensive Player of the Week” as he had 256 yards of total offense, including 188 yards rushing with four touchdowns. He also completed five of 13 passes for 68 yards.. .Quesada is second in the CCIW in total offense and third in rushing. . .Defensively, the Jays are led by Faron Ryan, who has made 63 total tackles, and linebacker James Barnes, who has 55 total tackles, including seven for yardage losses. . . The Bluejays are third in the CCIW in total offense (390.8) and last in defense (allowing 504.0 per game).
CAREER PICKS: Brad Andrekus (Carol Stream, Glenbard North HS) has eight interceptions for his career. The all-time leaders are Jon Goldie and Kevin Fahey, who had 16 from 1995 to 1998. Fahey also holds the season record with nine (1998).
ABOUT WHITE, AKIN: Freshman wide receiver Eric White (Antioch HS) and junior quarterback Josh Akin (Naperville, Benet Academy) are non-lettermen and are not profiled in the 2001 IWU media guide. WHITE: Was an all-North Suburban Conference, all-county and all-area football player as a senior for the Sequoits. . . Also lettered four times in basketball . . .Majoring in business. AKIN: He threw for 800 yards and eight touchdowns as a high school senior for an East Suburban Catholic Conference champion team that made the state playoffs. . . Majoring in chemistry.
